Talk me out of buying an F-body instead

Ok,

Here is the deal, found a decently priced, 2002 Camaro Convertible with the LS1/t56 and when I was punching out my numbers ,I was thinking that I could get the Camaro for around $5000 more than what have have invested in my engine, accessories, wiring harness, intake, cam swap, ect ect ect (too many extras to list, already about $6000 into it) plus the price of my truck. Seeing as I would have another 3K invested to get V8 power to do the swap for me, that would put me even close to the price of the f-body

Maybe Im just getting stir crazy and don't have enough time to work on my truck, but dang, its getting frustrating because I don't see the progress I thought I would at this point. The wife keeps getting on me about the $$$ spent on it, and plus there is always my real job......yay......... How else did you all get through it??? Ya know, hold the line, keep moving forward.

On another note, if you talk me out of this I would have a complete performance rebuilt 2000 WS6 LS1 with EVERYTHINGneeded but the transmission to swap into an s10 for a cheap package deal......

NO NO>......stay the course. Oh well thanks for letting me vent!!

My wife and I discussed this for a long time, I had my truck and a 5.3L/4L60E I had purchased. I told her I would need 10k out of savings to do this and she said I could have 6k.

Long story short- We decided to just buy my truck already finished so I wouldn't be spending all my time in the garage. Being with my wife is way more valuable than saying that I built it myself. So I sold my 5.3L/4L60E and my '98 S-10 and bought the '99 I have now.

honestly i've had both trans am's and my s10. i just sold my s10 and im driving a 02 ws6 T56 car now. honestly i like driving the t/a better than the s10. But, the s10 was a lot of fun and turned a lot more heads than your typical f-body you pass everyday going to work...

yeah really, everyone can tell you how they feel about it, but in the end its your decision, what would make you happier, a fbody or a lsx s10? i love my S10, i wouldn't trade it for anything, but i'm a mini trucker to the bone. when i was 10 i wanted a s10xtreme. however, family comes first, thats the only advice i can offer! you can replace a car or truck but you can't replace the time spent with family and friends

Re: Talk me out of buying an F-body instead

The S10 will turn more heads plus cheaper on insurance . You can always haul a little something in the truck too. The f-body will be fun to drive also but everybody has one. There is a broader market for the truck than the f-body also. Everybody likes ls conversions (even Ford guys). I would'nt argue with my wife over one though . Even if you win fight it will always be brought up. Why don't you buy the blue 1st gen on ebay ? Could be bought for $12k.

Wow, I must have a fantastic wife because she never gives me any grief over money spent on my truck or anything else, I've been saving for over a year for my LS-1 swap, I have about $3000, she seems like she genuinely wants me to have all the things that make me happy

Re: Talk me out of buying an F-body instead

Had a heart to heart with the wife tonight and don't know if I am going to go with the Fbody but I think the S10 project is done if not at least on hold and and thus im going to try to sell my engine, Current Performance Wiring Harness, Accessories, Sandersons, but keeping some of the go fast goodies (LS6 Cam, Pushrods, Predator Tuner, Yella Terra Rockers/ flywheel, Spec Clutch)...........thanks for the comments, and especially you scott and sweetV8 I feel like you guys went through this stuff and know how much it sucks to be arguing with the wife, and she actually has been really good with it up until I mentioned going to TN to get it swapped (I want it done the right way and I know I don't have the time, tools, or know how to make it look like I want it) and the 3-4000 dollar paint job I want......but who can blame her........... At this point I will still keep the S10 as it was my College Truck and has plenty of memories plus I have a lot invested in it.

Anyone need a NEW HARNESS for an LS1/T-56?

The camaro seems a little on the high side. Ls1tech usually has some good deals.

I was thinking of 12500- 13000 as an offer, the wife has really taken to the idea of owning a vert

That is unless you are coming out with an "affordable" LS2 colorado, hint hint nudge nudge?????

Wish you'd posted the harness sooner. I ordered the harness from Jared 6 weeks ago for my 6.0/T56 build. I'm interested in the accessories on the front of your ls1 if you'll seperate.

Wow,

Lots of questions today, I hope I pmed all of you with questions and Im so glad that you guys might actually get to use these parts in your projects. I also think that Jerad should be helpful with any harness questions you have, especially as i have the build sheet.

I have expanded my search to LS1tech, beautiful cars, but some of them are a bit beat up (Drag Cars ect) with a lot of Hi-Po parts!!! There is a black WS6 2001 that is just awesome but it has a few miles and its a T-Tops.

I like your truck tooo SLEEPERs10, I think we have similar tastes (is that a GEN 4 valance???), and your right, I don't think I could part with the truck, just too much history.......

maybe a little bit late on this thread ...........but I purchased the original white LS1Blazer and Scott's work is solid.

5 1/2 years later, its my summertime driver and I take it out to about 1 show a year and it always trophies. Added a cargo cover, sub, 9" ford with Traction bars and a rear sway bar and.........

I have never had to repair anything associated with the swap.

hate to see another LSx swap hit the shitter but thats how life works. that camaro is pricey for 72k miles, i would offer 9,000 and not go over 10,000. u should shop around and find a T/A, WS6, T56, vert, those are so badass. good luck with the hunt, and theres always later on to do a swap in the s10
