Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
well your machine shop may be slow, but your still ahead of me!
I decided to go with a bigger cam then my ls6 one, and that was one of the ones I looked at. But I'm going to stay a little milder then that, I dont feel like going low enough in gears or high enough in stall to make that thing work. any word on some headers yet? comp, and prc don't play well with manifolds . |

that cam will work just fine. im running a 228/232 581/588 on a 112LSA, untuned, and it works fine.

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Thats what I thought too... I was going to go with one somewhere in the 3400-3600 range but Dave at Yank recommended the SS4000 (after discussing my setup) and assured me that it would run the street fine. I'm pretty confident in Daves choice, after all, I know zip compared to him.

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
What's your rear differential gear ratio?
Did you review Yank's converter selection matrix? http://www.converter.cc/converter_selector/ With 3.42 gears, it recommends a 3600 stall With 3.73 gears, it shows a 4000 stall Check it out. Both "seem" a little high to me for a daily driver in such a light truck. In a Silverado SS or a TBSS, these would work well because of the vehicle weight. Time for some DR's ( I would have probably suggested something in the 2,400 to 2,800 range) But then again, I'm running an 2,000 stall in mine. You can always try the 4K stall and then Stall "down" if you don't like it. |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Right now the truck still has the junk rear with 3.73 gears.
Once the engine and tranny are in and running I will be dropping the stock rear in favor of a Currie Enterprises bolt-in ford 9in. with 3.70 gears. I did check out the converter selection matrix and was a bit put off by the fact that vehicle weight doesn't have a role in it's configuration. DR's are definatly on the agenda... I am thinking about picking up some 255/50/16 Hoosier's...but if anyone has a recommendation of good DR that they have had luck with I am all ears. |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Well guys, I just got back from Finish Line Transmissions!
Let me first say that the guys at FLT are great people and really go the extra mile to ensure that every customer gets the best transmission possible. I spent about an hour there and learned some new stuff and saw first hand the time and care they put into everything they do. I spent most of my time talking with Chuck (the owner) and was pretty impressed with the time he took to explain things to me... I know for a fact that if I ever need another transmission for any future build that Finish Line Transmissions will be getting my business!!!! Here she is.... FLT Level 5 Trans w/billet output shaft ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by RedLsxS10 : 06-13-2008 at 12:53 AM. |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
It's all good. Everyone has those days from time to time.
I will be using the Sanderson shorties for now. Whenever I see a nice set of LT's released I will be running those . Probably going to go with the ones that CPW is coming out with...gotta support the one guy that gives his all for these swaps! |

yeah, after I saw his radiator I think I'm saying to hell with putting mine in the bed. but I can wait for a while before everything goes in. its good to see yours going togather, mine will be milder, but pretty close to your setup.

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Well guys, I hit a snag. My wife says I have to sell my car before I buy anything else for the truck... Anyone looking for a new daily driver??
I have been meaning to get rid of it for quite awhile now because all it does is take up space in my already overly crowded yard. It is a 1998 Cavalier Z24 (hence the old screen name). It has 74k, manual trans, Manta Green exterior, black interior, pw, pl, pm, pwr sunroof, a/c, cd, cruise, good tires....It's bone stock! Gets about 34mpg highway $4000 obo Right now I need to put a new catalytic converter and muffler on it because I sold the whole exhaust to a friend that desperatly needed it for his awhile back. If anyone wants pics or may be interested please PM me and keep this thread clean. -Matt |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Well, I ordered lifters today along with new LS2 lifter trays. I gave ThunderRacing a call this morning and they recommended the LS7 lifters for my setup.... I was set on the Morels but what the heck... that's $375 to spend on my cooling system!!
Also, I have desperately wanted a sportside S10 for a long while now (before I was a member here) and I finally found a bed today and plan to pick it up either this Thurs. or Fri. or next week on the same days. I can hardly wait!! Anyone know how much lighter the sportside bed is? |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Well I got my sportside box today!!! It doesn't match great (color) but what the heck... I'm going to get the whole truck painted anyways.
![]() My lifters are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. So I should be able to get it all buttoned up tomorrow (granted my 7.325 PR's are right)!!!! Also, I may be putting the swap on hold for a bit.. only because I am really wanting the rad/fan/con setup that Jared @ CPW is coming out with. We'll see. Either way, it shouldn't be too awful long now. ![]() |
