Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Well just as the title says I am starting my 5.3L/4L60E adventure. I figured I would post up and show off all that I have compiled so far.
Hopefully by the time this is done it will serve as another good guide for people to use! I will keep an updated tally of all money spent on the swap at the end of this post! First is the truck.. I bought it just for this swap. It is a 99 ZQ8 RCSB 2.2l/5speed. I picked it up for $1500.... Thats right!! It runs and drives great considering it has 192k on it!! It does need some body work (misc. dents all over the box) but I didn't mind a little cosmetic damage! Here is a pic I just snapped quick. ![]() I picked up my motor and tranny yesterday at a local yard. Here is when I first got home with them. ![]() The motor is out of a 03 Tahoe that had 47050 on the clock. Here is how the motor sits right now...after a little cleaning! ![]() The transmission is out of a 03 GMC Sierra 1500 that had 22703 on the clock. ![]() I placed an order with Jared at Current Performance on 3/12/08 for my wiring harness and I tell you what...the guy knows what customer service is all about! Not only that but he knows his stuff. I will post pictures of that when it gets here in about 7 weeks. I can't wait!! I got almost all the C5 accessories (still need the resevoir and bracket) off of Ebay about a week ago. Here's a pic. (needs a good cleaning) ![]() I also picked up a hydroboost unit out of a 92 Astro Van just to give myself a little more room in that engine bay! ![]() While I was out at the yard I couldn't help but look around for a Blazer floor shift console because I can't see paying $300+ for one on Ebay. I lucked out and found one. So I snaged it and the little wiring harness that pluged into it and the shift cable! Here's a pic of that. ![]() Main things that I need to pick up- LS6 intake manifold and fuel rails and injectors Mounts and headers from Jared @CPW 4.3 radiator and electric fans A/C stuff from Hot Rod Lane LS2 water pump Price List Truck (192k)- $1500 Engine (47k)- $625 Transmission (22k)- $500 Wiring Harness- $825 C5 accessories (used)- $165 (so far) Hydroboost (used)- $30 Blazer floor shift console- $35 4.3l fuel pump - $free H3 pan - $190 Total so far- $2370 (not including truck) Well I think that's all I have for now. Like I said I will keep this updated every chance I get! Last edited by SweetS10V8 : 03-16-2008 at 11:34 AM. |

I saw this truck on the "bay". I bid on it a couple of times just for the heck of it.
Good find! |

I always heard that about the car coils and that the truck coils were the fix to the problem.

Yeah, I saw those corvette accessories on ebay, I almost bid on them, but I figured with my luck as soon as I started buying individual pieces, a kit would come available, and then I would be SOL.

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Got an e-mail from GMpartsdirect today.... My pan, windage tray, and pickup tube are all backordered. The only parts for the pan swap that I will be getting right now is the dipstick and dipstick tube. I am really hoping that it doesn't take too long.
On a good note... I should have an LS6 intake manifold in a week or so. Like I said, I will keep this as up to date as possible so keep an eye out. This should be done in about 6 weeks!! |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Perhaps I missed the answer somewhere in this post, but with your 92 hydroboost module, how are you planning on hooking the lines up to the power steering pump? I know how it works, I'm curious as to how YOU are doing it within the parameters of this S10 V8 swap.
Keep up the good work. This is the easy part; parts collecting. ![]() |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
-LS6 Intake manifold from 2004 GTO -Ported, Polished, & Epoxied TB -LS6 Injectors from 2004 GTO -All Manifold bolts = 440shipped! I still need to pick up a fuel rail, the coolant crossover pipe & plugs, and a throttle cable bracket. I figure that will add about another $50-$60 depending on how lucky I get. The total will be added to the first post as soon as I purchase the other items. |

nice start on the project, looks like you have your shit together! SUBSCRIBED!
Do you or a relative own a towing/repair business? I only ask because of the roll off in the background. Sometimes those perks really help! |

Re: Starting my 99ZQ8 5.3L/4L60E adventure!
Oh yeah, I picked this up on Ebay for my wife because she said that she wont gripe about my truck if I build her one too....and it was only like an hour away from me so I couldn't say no!
![]() I couldn't believe it when it ended.. It even came with a clear title...for $46!!!! To answer a previous question about the rolloff trucks. Yes, my father in-law has a kind of side business for which he has three rolloffs. I already have a 350/th350 lined up for it. It'll be a while before I even think about starting on this one but I thought I would show it...and how much I got it for!! ![]() |
