Good job! The first start up is the best part of the whole swap.

One day a friend will help you!! My friend knows a lot, he has been doing since he was young!! He reccommended me to go for a lt-1 swap, because it's a iron block and can take more beatings!! The ls-1 aluminum block tends to warp under strong power, and the motor does not last long!! But, I am really deciding on which one to go for! Also I he is going to help me do a two tone paint job, he has done it for many years, basically all his life , he is in his early 30s'!

Umm, I dont think so. Do some research my young grasshopper.
I would gladly trade my LT4 for an LS1, 2 or 7 motor ANYDAY!

Wow, I wouldnt listen to your friend either. Whats the first word that comes to mind when people hear LT1?? Opti-spark.....

What is it when they hear LS1?? Awsome....

Ive done about 500-600 dyno pulls on the current LS1 at work, and it wasnt anywhere near new when I started with it. You cant kill the thing!! I would still take that engine and run it in my truck, if I had the option.

cool!!! So if I pressed my foot like crazy , would it still take the beatings? I always wanted an ls-1 for a daily driver!!! He use to drag race his 91 chevy s-10 and had full slicks, had over 1000 hp an he had a sb 400!! He got to see powerful ls-1 v8s in cars and they did a good job at first, but many failed! He got to see powerful lt-1s and they did not have problems!! Lead me to the right direction , when the near future gets here for me to get the v8!! I really don't want to race it, I just want power and get up and go!! because my piss of crap 4 banger is so damn weak!!

Re: Started the LS1 for the First Time!!!

LS1's are very strong. Even with the aluminum block, they're very stout. I beleive teh bottom end is like a 6 bolt main, and the factory crank's good to 800-1000 HP.

Unless you plan on crazy amounts of boost( like 25- 30 psi+) the aluminum block will be fine. Only problems I've ever heard of was pulling the head bolts out of the block from huge turbos

Re: Started the LS1 for the First Time!!!

The ls1 is a monster. The 2.2l is crap compared to the tech they put into the ls1. I'm pretty sure every new engine GM has put out has designs taken from the 97 ls1. Yes, you can ruin a ls1 with a turbo. A buddy ask a shop to put a turbo on his engine and asked may times if they though to upgrade the internals well they tuned it and blew it. His, vette was sitting for over a year before it was all fixed. You should be fine up to whatever you plan for just remember running over 6000rpm is going to break something at any horsepower without parts that can take that rpm.

I beleive the stock LS1 redlines 6000 rpm. Cam swap w/springs and you'll easily see 6500-7000 rpm with the stock bottom end. With a good tune, guys have been beating on them for years like that. I beleive the LS6's got a 7000 rpm redline stock.

Re: Started the LS1 for the First Time!!!

Stock cammed LS1s peak at about 5700-5800 RPM, I pull them to 6000. After a cam swap to 216/220...6500 RPM is doable with prpoer valve train upgrades.

You can do a true 5.7l ls1 for about $7,000 from a 2.2l. I've put in a lot more than that into my ls10k because I have a show truck. My only advice to anyone lowered or bagged GET A CORVETTE LS2 OIL PAN not the gto ls2 pan or the ls7. That oil pan is just awesome it fits about 1.5-2" from the bottom of the crossmember. Yes, you have to cut the crossmember about a .5". The pan and parts will cost $500 just as much as a custom truck pan, but you have a correct size pan that's build like no other I've ever seen. I'm not really going to post much more about my truck cause well you have to goto shows to see it. I can't promise any shows but I know midwest this year and southeast next year.
