So is my truck suppost to shift at 6200 ish RPM ?

Like the title says i just got a new Performance Tune from jared, before it was just a stock 5.3l tahoe tune.

Well like anyone would do i threw in the new ECU and hit the streets. Well its wraping out past the 6k mark on the tach.

All i have done to the engine is bolt ons. Sandersons, K&N, electric fans, exhaust, and the tune of course.

To my knowlodge i thought the truck intakes and engines for that matter shouldn't rev that high?

im not sure I understand what your asking. Is the rev limiter gone? Or does the truck not shift untill 6200 RPMs?

Re: So is my truck suppost to shift at 6200 ish RPM ?

Well in first and second and third gears it shifted some where right after 6000. That was the first full throttle pull

But the second pull it pinged off the rev limiter in third gear till i let off a little. But the first two gears were the same as the first time.

All i'm saying is to my knowledge these should shift at like 5800 ? Right, and thats high...

It should be shifting around 6000.
If it is going past that, we probably need to revisit that tune.

so wait, your saying its shifting at 6200 at WOT, correct?
or are you saying that under normal driving conditions its not shifting until 6-6200?

6200 is perfectly fine for that motor IMHO

x2

i was getting the impression that it was shifting that high under normal driving conditions. If thats the WOT shift point, I wouldn't worry. Its a tad high for keeping it in the power band but its nothing obsurd.

the truck intake may suprise you, my brothers 6.0L malibu with truck intake was making power above 6000 rpm, the graph was still rising when he shut it down

Is the tranny slipping? You said it wouldnt shift untill you let out of the peddal??I thought these trannys were computer controlled, not line pressure???

The tune is set at 6200. Worked out nice in a friends silverado that we dynoed, so that is what I've been using.
But if it is bouncing off the rev limiter (which is common at the top of 3rd gear flat footed), then we can lower it.

is that too high for stock internals, like valve springs, rockers, push rods, ect.

O also to answer the other question it did hit the rev limiter the second time. Seemed it had power, guess i'm just kinda freaked out because never taken it that high. Just making sure i didn't get some ls1 tune for a modded engine or something wierd.

nah, you are perfectly fine to spin that motor to 6200. just watch out for that limiter though, dont want to hit that, they do tend to get some valve float around it, and that can lash your piston, put a nice eyebrow on it, or at worse blow a hole in one

Re: So is my truck suppost to shift at 6200 ish RPM ?

So i took it out for another beating agian tonight to double check the 3rd gear. It defenitly(SP?) has trouble shifting into 3rd. I even used the column tonight and tried shifting at like 5800 and it didn't pop into gear? Till i let off the gas a little.

So whats that mean, need to back off the high shift or what?

At least its not a big problem, just can't give it WOT.

why is that a huge problem. i heard its a problem with other people that turn the rev limiter up. It only wont shift into 3rd at WOT. If i let off it does. and if its not WOT then it shift before 6200 fine.

I should take a video of how mine shifts, the tach pegs out at 6000rpm and then just keeps going to what would seem like 7000rpm if the tach was right, tach is definitely off.

Ya but when it hits like 6000 before it tries to shift into 3rd i'm going 90 something.

I'm moving right now and just want to avoid the cost of shipping it to Jared again. Plus i'm getting exhaust redone. I understand your point tho believe me.

What gears are you running? A lower gear will cause it to hit the limmiter before it changes out. Or your just going to have to ease up a little to let it shift . The same applies when going into overdrive with any GM automatic.

Re: So is my truck suppost to shift at 6200 ish RPM ?

I have seen that same senario happen at the shop. It only seems to happen to trucks that have both an exhaust and CAI, and the supercharged ones. It seems to me that the trans cannot shift fast enough in stock form to stop the engine from hitting the rev limiter. I would try and see if you programmer can maybe lower the shift point a little and shorten the shift time. I t may shift firmer but hopefully it will keep it off the rev limiter. Good Luck.
