Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

So I am finally starting up a post to show what I've been up to and will start off with a few pics.

My S10 is a 1999 that I purchased from new. Like these trucks so much that when I purchased it I never sat in mine or any S10, test drove a S10, just a window peek and I made the purchase, however originally wanted a blazer but couldn't afford it.

It has yet to see rain and purely hobby! So I'm moving supper slowly not in any rush. Plus I've never even done an oil change before this lol.
So getting into this is crazy for me but I'm giving it a go!

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

So at first I purchased a 5.3 L33 on a crazy deal with low kms and then turned out not to be such a deal as I had to build it and then decided to change my plans.

So I ended up waisting $$$ and rebuilding the motor only to sell but I just wanted a 5.7l.

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

Ahh that's cool, just take your time and don't get in a hurry. I've never done a v8 swap personally but I've always wanted to. I think the biggest thing is, if you have trouble with anything or are unsure of something, ASK someone. Alot of people I know refuse to ask questions and they get in so much trouble/with a big ass mess on their hands because of it sometimes. I don't see why they have such a big problem with asking for help, it doesn't make anyone look stupid and most people enjoy helping out

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

so i was happy to get this out ALL by myself!!! no help!

just had my brother in law and next door neighbour that we share our drive with help me pull the engine back and away from the truck and wife on the camera!

i almost forgot that one last ground wire that CODE4LS1 warned about that held the engine back and nearly pulled my truck off the stand. well not really.

it sucks to have to fork out cash for the engine stand and lift but that's life.

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

now onto the front core and installing Jared's rad and a/c condensor which are amazing like all his products! Jared you da man!

his goods he's cratin helped me to decide to go ahead with all this and he is VERY patient to help with any question and not screen my calls from Toronto lol.
i called him back seconds after the last call when confused about someting and he never lost it lol.

so here is my original core that i messed up on drilling to many holes for the ac lines for CPW's high mount ac kit.

i hate using a whole saw, kind of scarry for me! so i was pissed and purchased a new core support and made sure to do this one right!

i also had some rust on the old core support and thought of getting a new core anyhow.

new one with the Transcool oil cooler installed. (Thanks CODE4LS1 for help choosing that cooler and posting pics of yours installed.)

also thanks to SS94S10 for the hook up on part numbers to the rivets and misc crap clips that broke on me and go on the core.

new core:

Other swappers should take note of one of your skills! You appear to be very well organized! That is a huge plus when dismantling and reassembling a truck!

x2 - You can't be too detail oriented when dismantling and labeling parts.

As others said, very nice project, parts list, and build thread.

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

philntx and Jonce007,

yeah i have now 54 folders saved and maybe 50+++ pictures in each, all numbered and then i started a draft in my yahoo account with deatails as clear as possible for me to undersatnd what happened in each folder.

there won't be a single screw, nut, bolt i won't be able to replace.

i swear my pc was so slow my wife thought i was downloading porn, til i showed her. i just bought a memory card to switch it to.

and the craziest part is EVERY single nut, screw and part has been scrubbed to hell removing all rust proofing and ziplocked bag'd away. (not to keep fresh lol but to keep together and labelled)

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

hey couple quick questions about the radiator/condensor setup....Does the shroud have something like 1/4" or 1/2" buffer between it and the radiator??How is the shroud connected to the radiator?? Is it welded or bolted?? It's hard to tell from the pics...And how is the condensor secured to the radiator?? Oh and yours doesn't have the extra port like mine( under the top inlet) I wonder which one is Jared's newer design..( I forget) Thanks man... Sorry if I hijacked...

Re: Sleeper S10's LSX Swap

The fan shroud is held on by screws. On mine there is hardly a gap between the shroud and the radiator. The condensor is held on by 4 button head allen bolts that screw into little brackets welded to the front of the radiator. I believe the newer design has the extra fitting under the upper hose port for the steam vent. Mine did not have this extra port so I used the drain fitting for my steam vent.
