Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

My Fuel level gauge and Engine Temp gauge are not working at all. Stay at zero and don't even flinch.

Before the swap, they worked perfect.

Was on the phone with Jared at CPW for an hour, and we couldn't find the issue...

Truck was a 2000 2.2L 5spd to begin with. LS1 6 speed now.

What wire can i trace from the ECU to the dash???

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

Give me a second I'll pull up the diagram. I saw in your video that all of your gauges look like they are all the way to the left. So just make sure that your cluster fuse is okay.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

Alright I got a little bit. Service information doesn't list as much as they do now with newer models but here's what I dug up so far...

ECT has two wires coming out, one is yellow and one is brown. I don't know how Jared does the connectors but on the factory connectors yellow was terminal 54 on C1 and brown was terminal 27 on C2. Just give me a little bit longer and hopefully I'll get something more useful.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

Not a ground... i've checked every single one...

also welded a bar from cab to chassis... it's deff. grounded

Jarreds harness is working fine, its something w/ my truck. Cooling fans come on when they are supposed to, and the scanner is reading the sensor no prob.

All gauges work except for Fuel level and ECT.

(oil psi, tach, speedo, and volt work)

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

On my truck the fuel gauge never works also. But when I hook up the TechII it reads the voltage just fine. The PCM, cluster, and sending unit aren't on ther same page of how to communicate.

Ive spoken to a guy I know that is very good at this stuff and he said he fixed this same problem on another guys S-10 by splicing 2 tunes together. I have a stock S-10 2.2L & 4.3L tune for my year, but it doesn't let me get into the fuel calibrations like it does on my current V8 tune. So when I get off my butt I'm going to have to go have him make me a tune.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

Sent you an email. For some reason I think it's got something to do with the Class 2 signal communication garbage which would explain why it didn't work for others as well. Has Jared said anything about it? He's alot better at this than me I'm just trying to diagnose behind a computer lol.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

just got our harness from jared as well, and when we first plugged it up and started the truck the temp and gas gauge didnt work, now after its ran for a few minutes, everytime we start it, it will run good and the temp gauge will work for about 5 seconds, and then the battery light will come on, and the temp gauge will stop working, it also runs poorly as soon as this happens

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

Forgot to mention as well.......

My high beam indicator doesn't light up, and the odometer does not light up when the truck is running. THey work fine when the truck's off~ strange!!!!

xloud9t5gmcsuvx sent me some diagrams that i'm going to try and use to trace some wires just to ensure continuity.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

if i'm not a one-off issue on this topic, i think we should get Jarred in on this so he can keep his QC up on the table. I love what he's doing for our s10 community, so should we include him in figuring this out?

When i was on the phone with him for an hour with an ohm meter in my hand checking grounds and continuity, i realized he's a true guy and only wants to help. Lets help him out too and see if we can all figure this out.

ok- i'm done with the group-hug b.s. haha

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

i know how complex the wiring can be. i did my own wiring though, so i have a few ideas...

could you guys with non-functional gauges check this out? if i recall my wiring correctly, there are two grounds at the data link connector (under the dash) pins 4 and 5 i believe. check if both are grounded

when i did my swap, i had an issue and i think it had something to do with one of those grounds. if you guys can check that, it might point something out

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

The fuel gauge on the 98-up trucks is controlled by the engine computer. The computer gets the signal from the sending unit through a connector that we put in with the transmission wiring, it is a 6 pin connector, but only has 2 wires in it. (Black wire and a purple wire) This connects to a harness on the original truck that runs from the gas tank along the driver's side frame rail and comes across the transmission crossmember.
For anyone having a problem with the gas gauge, that would be the first thing to check and see that it is plugged in.

The other thing is that the temp. gauge and fuel gauge are both controlled via serial data, so they are controlled by the computer through the same wire. It is different depending on what year the truck is and what engine was in the truck to start with, so I can't make a blanket statement for everyone to check that serial data wire. I can tell you that it comes out of the engine computer blue connector pin 58.

Anyone that is having troubles, contact me directly via phone call or email so I can look up your paperwork for your specific vehicle then I can be of more assistance in figuring these out. There is no reason if the stock fuel tank and sending unit are still installed, that the fuel gauge shouldn't work.

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

^you're right jarred. Remember we were on the phone for almost an hour? I think my truck is just a freak.

What exactly are those 2 wires in the 6 pin harness out of the tranny wiring for? +, -, Signal to/from sending unit? It's plugged in, but is there something i can do a continuity test on?

Would ^ being unplugged make the ECT gauge not work?

the data link connector is your diagnostic port

Re: Seriously stumped~ Wiring diagram help???

my truck was originally a 98 2.2 5 speed, and now a 2000 ls1/t56, and everything works great... i have found before in Jared's harnesses one or 2 loose pins in random connectors.... Sh*t happens.... first, id check the 3(?) connectors at the firewall by the evaporator housing for a loose pin (where the harness plugs into the factory wiring) That would probably be the best starting point
