Re: Sema 2009
Well, I have never been (to SEMA) and we are making it a week long vacation. I have rented a car for a trip to the grand canyon and hoover dam to do some site seeing. We plan on gambling and seeing some of the shows too. Does anyone who has been have any tips while at SEMA? I know Phil suggested good walking shoes and a carry cart with wheels.

Re: Sema 2009
Im 100% serious, thats a life saver. 15 square miles of car parts makes you walk for days and your junk will be hurting. Be liberal, and take two pair of shoes. Anything to keep blisters away.

Re: Sema 2009
You are soooo right about that!
Last year, I believe there were over 3 million sq ft of covered building to see. Then there was what was outside the Convention Center! They have plastic bags to carry literature in, but, over the years, I've found that a rolling luggage cart works best. Don't try to see everything the first day. You'll miss much of it. Also keep in mind that there are hundreds of the "same type" supplier that you don't need to visit. Tires for instance. If you have a brand you want to visit, hit that booth and skip the rest. There will be complete sections for products that you'll have no use for. Skip those. |

Re: Sema 2009
Its sensory over load at sema for a car lover so dont get wrapped up in all the hype and try to look at everything, find the booths you want to visit and take the time to look at products and vehicles, especially gm performance parts booth. Grab all the free catalogs that you normally have to pay for, definetly bring a backpack or roller bag, signed model posters make great wallpaper for the shop, if your in the market for a product and have cash bring your check book cause sales reps are willing to make great deals at shows and ship it right to your house. I bought a dynasty 200dx tig welder from miller at the show last year for what a dealer would buy it. X2 on the good walking shoes and gold bond powder. If your down for a party wensday night hit up the palms for the kicker big air bash and thursday night the circle bar at hard rock. Most important, if you live vegas up too much one night do not try to fight off a hangover at the show! its not fun trust me, sleep it off at your hotel.

It gets pretty chilly at night! That Kicker party was okay last year. The Hard Rock is def. the place to be at night. That round bar gets PACKED!

Re: Sema 2009
7th year going.. Backpacks are more comfortable than the rolling suitcase plus it's easier to manuver through the crowded halls.. Good shoes are a MUST. Bring a snack/beer with you because it's expensive as all hell to eat there. Peep the orange lambo at hre wheels (shameless plug) and just enjoy everything as much as possible.. Don't grab every catalog cuz it's free cuz u will have a hundred pounds of paper to lug around..
Hit up lexani for their yearly DVD and bring a camera to take pictures of stuff.. That's all I could think of off the top of my head.. |

Re: Sema 2009
Its funny, Ill do anything to stay out of the wheel and tire section, and the 4x4 junk...lol The only reason I go upstairs is to see the silent auction stuff.
Im so narrow minded sometimes, but after your first year of SEMA punishment, you stick to the bare minimum that you need to see...lol You can go talk with Chip Foose ususally late at night when they are taping overhaulin(are they doing that this year?). Hes cool and sits and BS's with you. He autographed a hat for me, to give to someone I knew would die for his signature. He went so far as to sign the bottom of the bill of a hat and draw a 32 ford roadster on the top of the bill. Then Hot Rod did some pinstripes around it.
