Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
Lol sooo true Frank.
Yeah if yall know the sequence for the mains. I've decided to go to ARP main studs since I had some bolt stretch with the old bolts. I know your not suppose to reuse the bolts but I was just trying to get the clearances checked and she stretched under like 70 ftlbs... |

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
the bolt sequence isnt really that important. having a set method prevents people from torquing it in there crooked
basically, make sure all your mains are flat and seated then do your initial 15 ft/lbs. that will set the caps down, then i do the inner bolts. outter bolts are next and then finally the 8mm side bolts. once everything is tightened, make sure your crank turns over easily by hand |

Thanks Chaos!
Haha, you may have a chance to catch up with me Frank, I got to get my ARP main studs ordered. I can then actually get those pistons in for good. I didn't ring them since it's going to come apart. Also got the new cam bearings in. Haven't checked the deck height yet but I'll check that tomorrow, I'm wiped lol. |

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
This engine is lookin great man. I am debating the 5.3 swap for an 86 s10 I'm gettin. I jus don't know if it's gonna be worth the money for all the lil stuff. The initial price doesn't look too bad but I don't wanna get nickel and dimed to death. How much are you up to now? And what's ur projected final price for the whole swap?

To tell you the truth I don't even know what I'm up to right now if I had to guess maybe $1200... As for the swap I'd like to keep it under 4k... We will see how that works out lol.

I believe they were .014 for the top and .016 for the second ring IIRC.
Does anyone have any idea how to use a torque to angle gauge. I got the el cheapo one from Autozone and I have no idea how to use it...Just like this one ![]() |

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
you dont use angle gauges on arp!
you just set your wrench in place and use the lil arm to hold the base from turning. as you turn the wrench the needle should move and display the angle |

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
Ohhh ok, I guess you have to be smarter then the tool lol. Well the rods don't have ARP bolts, they are stock. I torqued them to 50 until I could figure out how to use the torque to degree wheel... but I'll losen them torque them to 15 them 60 degrees.

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
Yeah the Torque angle gauge is a lil tricky IMO...I found out it works better with two people using it...I got my wife to help me. I would set it up and get her to hold the bar steady against the block/whatever and then double check..If you wrench has any "slack" in it get it to where you are just about to press forward with it and set the gauge to zero then in one smooth motion go to whatever degree it calls for...I'm no professional just saying what I found out worked best for me...Hopefully it's not wrong...haha

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
I was looking at this shift improver kit from B&M http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70360/ ... It says it goes up to 2001 4L60E's so would it still work with an 03? Would B&M be a good brand to go with?

Re: [Project] MoPowa - 5.3 Build
I was reading in my LS book about the LS6 Yellow beehive valvesprings. It mentioned that other companies like Comp make springs that can handle .600 of lift (duh). My question is, can the LS6 yellow springs handle that much lift as my cam has .585 intake and exhaust?

I think the LS6 springs are just rated to either .550 or .575...I'd say probably more like .550 ....
