Its built to be driven. I put 8,000 Miles on the 5.3L in 8 months. This motor will be no different. The camshaft selection will sacrafice a little at the track to trade off for a little more streetability.

The diff upgrade was kinda a no brainer. How many s-10's on this site can say they put 500HP and 500TQ through a 7.5" 10 bolt with stock axels?? Sure I spent many hours making sure the pre-load and backlash was perfect but, I went 1.57 60 foot times with a 3800lbs truck. I know I was pushing it.

The rear end was $3000.00 From summit racing.

I run the factory cooler up front as well as a remote mounted B&M super cooler under the truck. The supercooler has a 10" electric fan and is thermostaticly controlled to turn the fan on at 180* The trans has never seen above 220* with this setup.

The last motor was a very mild setup. It was a cam only 5.3L with rodbolts, Supporting valvetrain mods and a bunch of nitrous. (Yes I ran a 200 hit on stock 5.3L pistons)

The new motor is a ground up street bruiser... 400-430RWHP N/A and 600-650 on the bottle

2-3 Weeks from now... I have all the parts and the engine is a lot farther along then my teaser pictures show. 600-650 is a Rear wheel HP number and hopefully a conservative one at that. So for all you crank HP fanatics 700-750

Re: Project "Darkhorse" Spy Photo's!!!! **56K beware**

Good choice on the 9" rear. I know you have line lockers, but also have you considered a summit proportioning valve for the disc brakes in the rear? It's not a must have, but if you drive it daily you don't want your rear discs locking up before your fronts do. I have that problem right now with my Ford 8.8".

What are you considering for a compression ratio? What heads (combustion chamber cc mostly is what I'm wondering)?

What is that block by the way? LSx no doubt, but I was wondering on the bore and stroke?

I was wondering how long it would take before someone would start asking these questions....

The truck has a praportioning valve but it is also 4 wheel ABS so the brakes should be kept well in check...

As far as comp ratio and those questions... I am just teasing for now so you must wait

Re: Project "Darkhorse" Spy Photo's!!!! **56K beware**

---A little History----

Some Oil rig company buys a brand new 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0L paints it company colors and hands the keys over to a 21 year old rig hand. 1500miles on the odometer and the jack-ass rolls the truck over and a huge engine fire starts. The truck is a right off and the engine is melted and scorched from top to bottem

$400 later I have a new project

I have looked into them and they are very nice. But for the small off the shelf sanderson header we have available they wont work as well as some other alternatives. Everyone raves that they flow over 300cfm on the intake but what they fail to notice is how weak the exhaust is comparatively.

Wow. Awesome job on the cleanup of the block. I will be watching this closely, as you and I have the same motor going in. Are you still using the 4L60E? I noticed pics of a tranny cooler mounted under the bed, any word on how much of a difference it makes in the temp?

The cooler under the bed has a 10" electric fan on it. The cooler can really suck the heat outta the tranny when the fan it on. On a 200 hit at the track on a 95* day I would start a pass with a trans temp of 160* once i got through the traps the temp would be about 220* as i turned onto the return road I would flip the fan on and by the time i got to the shack to grab my time slip it would be back down to 145*

Jeez. Might be something I'll have to consider since I often tow 2-3ton bobcat trailers. You go for 1/4 mile ownage, I treat my truck like a 2500HD . They're not that expensive either for the peace of mind offered. Is yours thermostat controlled or do you flip a switch to activate the fan?
