Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Well finally got it back on the ground 1st time in 2 months. Pretty much got the suspension wrapped up with the exception of the sway bar, still waiting on new linkage. It should be here in a day or 2.

Anyone know if I have the upper A arms on the right side.

Here are the new Arp head and rod bolts that showed up today.

Got it back on the stand for you steve when ever you have time to come over and help out with that cam and motor stuff.

I'll be over there this weekend....Do you have a good 1/2" torque wrench? We will also need a 3 jaw puller for the dampner.

The puller I have will not work with the stock dampner. You can loan one from autozone for around $15. Hell, I will just bring my torque wrenches just in case.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Got my CPW radiator and condenser installed today. Fits in there pretty good, with a little triming.

Heres the hood latch bracket, you have to cut and replace with another piece of metal included.

You can see were i had to notch for the fittings on the condenser

It's looks similar just that the pcv system isn't on the ls2 version. Also don't forget the eight little o-rings that are needed for that valley cover. (I didn't see any in the picture but they may be included.)

If the PCV system you are referring to is the tube on the front top of the cover not being on a LS2...Yes it is on all three LS2 , 3 , 7....

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Well with the help of Steve (zx9rgreen) we tore down the motor today and installed the new valve springs (not pictured look the same as factory) and also got the arp rod bolts installed. Got to go pick up new lifter trays cause the other ones are set up for D.O.D.Heres some pics.

Lost my torque bits so we couldn't install the cam today.

Is it normal for the tops of the pistons to look black like this.

New ARP rod bolts installed. Torqued to 45 ft.lbs incase someone wanted to know.

Thanks for your help today Steve I learned alot.

Sucks that you lost the bits...Cool that you learned some stuff though..It would be nice if any of my buddies liked tech talk or even knew anything about engines...I've been reading so much about these motors that my brain is about to explode!!!

For the pcv system, I was talking about the black box section under the valley cover, the valley cover I have is exactly like that, but without the black section. Sorry to clutter your thread with nonsense, so continue on with the good work.

right now I'm trying to find out the best way to clean the intake and exhaust ports on the heads...I guess some carb cleaner and wiping it off will work..but I'm afraid of carbon chips falling into the cylinder...

I'd like to do a cam and head swap. But money wise for now it'll be easier to go stock. I've been reading about the L76 intake and L92 heads. They make some great bolt on power and the price isn't too bad...I guess we'll see how everything goes.

Do you have the rockers backed off so all the valves are closed? If so just use a vacuum cleaner or compressed air.

Yea it's a good idea to back them off if the motor will be sitting for a while also.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Thanks for the tip... Yeah it'll be sitting for at least another 6 months...Just back them off far enough for the valves to close? Since it'll be sitting for a lil while and no oil being ran through it is there anything I should do? Or is just the same as a car sitting in storage and then starting it up?

Sorry to hijack you thread platour....

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

well me and my dad put the new cam in, also got my new lifter trays and come to find out they are the wrong fucking ones. I'm so tired of getting wrong parts. Can anyone tell which ones i have ( i suppose to have LS2), and which ones i need. Also what do i need to torque the ARP cam bolts to, summit said 26 ft. lbs.

I let my dad install it since he's the only one to ever do one.

Heres the lifter trays, top ones are supposely LS2, and the bottom are the truck motor ones (notice the groove in the truck lifter tray).

Here are the ARP bolts in the cam sprocket. Does everthing look like it suppose to.

does this look in time to everyone, or does the marks have to line up perfect.

and finally the new valve spring.
