Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Well come to find out summit sent me the wrong bushings, so now im waiting on the new ones to come in so i can get it back on the ground. Also had bought new coil spring insulators from summit, and the guy said it came with a full set of 4, come to find out it was just 2 that cost almost 40 buxs, so i sent them back, no way i was paying 80 dollars for insulators. I just ordered factory ones. Also ordered new ARP head bolts, and rod bolts form texas speed, should be here in a few days then im going to start tearing in to the motor. Anyone have any good reading on cam, springs, and lifter installs. Its going to be my first time.

The insulators i sent back.

Used Gen III valley cover thanks to Steve (zx9rgreen)

Heres something on the old valley cover. Anyone know what these are and if I can elimenate them.

My lifter soaking in oil ready for install, thanks for the tip steve.

Heres the old oil filter i took of the truck pan that came with the motor. I bought a new one for the H3 alpha pan, but didn't fit. But this one also fit the H3 pan. Anyone know if its the same filter.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

I think you might have been a little confused about those isolators. The sleeves actually wrap around the base of the coil and the donuts sit on top of the coils. It's a pair of isolators for two coils. They're just a little bit different from the stock form.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

The filter for a H3 6 cyl. is a PF61.....

The 6.0 should be the 48,

and the 5.3 in the alpha should be a 46...........\

I THINK!!!!!1

The tall round one is the oil pressure sensor....You need it. The small flat one is most likely the CPS (cam position sensor)

Hopefully soon i will be getting some real work done. If i were you i would get a 6.0 for sure, i just ran across this motor and didn't take my time looking. But it all depends on what your looking to spend. But they are all expensive really. I have already over $6,000 in it at this point.

How much were the spring insulators from dealer? Are you cleaning the rest of frame and spraying it ? Oh yeah and have you thought about doing the flaming river steering u-joint mod while you have everything apart?

The guy I just my motor from said he plans on grabbing up some more wrecked GTOs..(according to him they are plentiful down in florida)

I know where you could get the same setup with same miles for $1800...But in my opinion not a good deal...there a lots of good setups on ebay with lower miles for same or less. Also many LS2/T56 setups for that much with low miles.

Insulators were $40 for all of them. I'm not a 100% but they might be polyurethane. Not really familar with the flaming river steering u-joint mod. What exacally is that.

thanks, you would think that living near mexico would be cheaper...not the case, they sell all their stuff to south of the border for more than what most stateside will pay. case in point

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

It gets rid of the rag joint coupling on the steering shaft and uses a billet
u-joint for greater durability/response... I plan on doing it...And if you hadn't already painted and sandblasted the steering box I'd say get a ZQ8 box..Sorry I tend to get out of hand with ideas...

Come on money is nothing when you've already spent $6000.00 right... Though you may like it...

My wife is already tired of me buying stuff and I'm nowhere as deep into my pocket as you. She's probably going to end killing me in my sleep..

yea i been doing all this while layed off, and on unemplyment. Also with the help of my dad. He's been chipping in on it also cause he's always wanted to do something like this. If i go back to work then money won't be an issue anymore. But i might go ahead and do it. Where do you buy that steering knuckle.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

You're going to need the newer valley cover off of a 07' and newer truck without displacement on demand. I don't believe the one you have will work on that motor since its the older style, and has the holes for knock sensors, while your motor the knock sensors should be on the sides.

But i also thought all the newer motors had the front mount cam sensor so I'm not quite sure maybe some one else well chime in and shed some light on the situation.

my motor is an 07' and i still have the valley cover. That blower is for a newer motor i believe. I just saw it on a new silverado in the new Truckin mag. It could be a different one though.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Yea the original cover you had was for a displacement on demand vechicle, you need the other cover that is for non displacement on demand, its smooth and will only have one plug (oil pressure). Yours has two plugs (oil pressure and displacement on demand). I hope this helps some, sorry if its confusing.

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

I was told i had to change from a Gen IV to a gen III valley cover to do my swap. Personally i don't know the reason behind it. But Jared and Phil both said I had to. But I quess if i upgrade to that blower i'll have to run the Gen ?IV valley cover. I'm also worried about the sensors on top of them. The Gen III does have the same ones as the Gen IV.

What to do with where the knock sensors go on the LS6 style cover? The LS2 style cover just has the oil pressure sensor on it...Does your timing chain cover have a sensor on it also?

Re: Project: 5.3 4l65e 4 door blazer

Well after fighting with my coil springs and trying to get them back in i decided to order lowering springs. Well i went with summit again cause i new they would be here in a 2 days. Well all they had in stock was a 1 inch from DJM. So they arrived today and had the same trouble. Since the motor wasn't in it, i didn't have enough weight. So I decided to go ahead and set the motor in the truck for extra weight plus it gave me an idea of how everything was going to fit up. Putting these coils back in has been a mother F**cker. But anyway heres a few pics.

DJM 1 inch coils

Motor test fit (Gives me motivation)
