Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

That looks a little too far back for me, im using split bench seats out of a newer extreme so i think the shifter might get in the way of those if i leave it like it is. I guess ill just have to use the shifter reloction kit i bought. Ill be using the stock rubber boot to with a kiesler shifter and custom throw arm. Im pretty sure if i move the shifter to the front inspection cover that i can use the stock hole so that should be nice. Thanks for pics!!

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

i know how to fix it...

THEN... throw some of these in.

My shifter only had to be moved back about 4-5 inches. It's a 2nd gen though

Also... isn't there a differance between a GTO and an F body shifter? One farther forward than the other?

Here are the headers installed. The collector on the driver side will need to change though since it wont allow the Oil Filter to screw on.

Same as you... i used that big foam donut from the stock shifter.

The forward section, i used some sheet metal, and tack welded around the edge. Then used Home Heater Ducting tape to seal it up. Then put some 1" thick insulation, then more ducting tape. so its pretty much water proofed.

did you get the ''forward position'' mounts for the radiator from JTR? I dont remember seeing what u said u were using for a radiator, but i used their aftermarket late 80's vette radiator and than i just trimmed the bottom of the support than put a new hole in the top.

If u need to replace it, do it now rather than wait til later

ah i see! yea ive ran into a couple things along the line of that on this build. Like you said if there seems to be a problem....fix it before moving onto something that will only make fixing that harder or more time consuming

its already done. I am just saying, it easier to replace a PS pump, water pump, egr valve, ect. with the motor out of the bay rather doing it in the engine bay. I am not saying replace everything and everything, but if u know something could or looks like its bad, doesnt hurt to do it now so u dont have to down the road. You know wat i mean

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

coming along great man! Few more things, and you'll be ready for a joy ride!!!

I remember i had NO front end on, bed wasn't on, and battery wasnt even tied down... Soon as i got everything engine wise all done, i did a 100 foot burnout up my street! hahaha. Battery fell off, was draggnig on the ground, i found tools that fell out of somewhere all up and down my street... but dang, you have more patience than me! haha.
