Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

Got the motor from a local on craigslist. $800 with 39,xxx miles. Its an LQ4 from a 2004 Silverado 2500. Im workin on the progress. Having a little trouble getting the tranny to slide onto the motor. I took the bell-housing off and bolted it up to the motor so hopefully that helps ease the process.

Stock rear end for now, i wont be taking it to the track anytime soon even when its done. The electrical is done by Jared over at CPW. Its there custom made harness for my engine and my truck so its plug and play.

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

No cutting or splicing at all? Just hook up power and ground or what? And what rear do you have 7.5"? Sorry for the questions, I am just getting excited. Would it be to much to ask how much you payed for the harness? pm?

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

Nope no cutting or splicing at all. Its god all the grounds on it and power hook ups and all the plugs for the engine your using, transmission, and the hookup that plugs into the plug on your firewall. Plug and play. Yes 7.5" rear. For the price you do pay a hefty price but its well worth it it my eyes if you dont want a huge hassle. For the custom built harness and computer i had to buy from them it was a little over $1000

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

Well today i was trying to figure out the power steering stuff. Found out that with a little bit of cutting on the truck bracket, the stock pump from my 2.8l fits perfect! The pulley from the 2.8l also lined up too.

Just got the transmission x member installed. Its the one that BRP sells. Only took about an hour to install and install the driveline into place.

how much did that trans xmember cost you? we took my stock one, moved it back obviously, and cut the part that the trans mounts to it, flipped it upside down and it was perfect. heres a pic of it

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

it was 225 for the x member plus whatever for the energy bushing. reason i bought it was because i dont have a welder on me or anyone that knows how to. So buying one was just easier on me. Plus its small and gives me more room for the exhaust

what drop coils do you have upfront? I used 1 inch 4.3l drop coils and it maybe dropped a tad bit more than a inch with the lt1. I had the coils in with my old 2.8 and i think it might have dropped only a half inch. So if you have 2 inch drop coils for a 2.8, you might drop another half inch due to wieght. And i want to see your header to UCA clearnce.

sounds good, thats wat i am going to do. Ihave 2inch spindles and 1inch coils and i want to drop the front another inch. That and get a slightly smaller tire to lower the front just a hair more. Im hoping for about a 1-1.25inch more drop with the combo of the coil/tire size, but i need to see header clearnce wiht a 2inch drop coil.

1-5/8 shorty headers from sanderson. If there were LT headers for a ''v8s10'' swap for a lt1, i rather get them, but there isnt any i believe.

Re: Project: 1st Gen Six Speed

Im doing the same swap (LQ4 w\ T56) on a 94 s10. How does the shifter location look on the inside of the truck? From what i can tell, mine is going to be too far back, but havent actually put the tranny in to see yet (cab is off the truck right now) I bought the shifter relocation kit to move the shifter to the front inspection plate and from a few measurements that i took, it seems like it will put the shifter in almost the exact spot as the original t5 shifter. Id rather not use the relocation kit though if can and instead send it back and save myself $500 bucks

could you maybe post some pics of the inside shifter location if you dont mind??

thanks, Allen

I used the thick rubber seal that was on my stock 5 speed shifter/transmission to seal the floorpan and shifter.

x2 on that. I did take a small sheetmetal piece, siliconed the old shifter hole shut and than pop rivet'ed it shut.
