Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

It is different for everyone. Depends on the parts used, mods done to the engine, Transmission used. I think its near impossible for someone to say YOU can do this swap for X dollars.

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

I suppose so, I got a 86 s10 and am getting rid of my turbo omni.

I can get a good 5.3 with all everything (ecu, belts, accessories, and all) and the trans for around 1700$.

Hopefully I can do the entire swap for 3k or under.

I also am wondering what the weak points of the 4L60E tranny are.

For next year it will basically be a stock 5.3 with 150 or so of nitrous.

No difference, just the accesory configuration really. You can purchace and install the Corvette covers on all the LS engines.

FYI, thats the LS1 accessories...i thought the LS2 part # was around here somewhere

EDIT: here it is...19155067, LS2/LS7

still no price though....really all that was different from the LS1/LS6 accessories was the water pump pulley right?

part # taken from this post.

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

For those of you going from a fuel rail with a return on the rail to a returnless rail such as the later corvettes...and use the filter Black X supplies the part # for you will need this fitting to put in the Filter to use a -6 AN fuel like along with 1 of the russel fittings for the fuel rail itself on the intake.

http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/catalog...d uct_id=1682

that presses into the filter side u run the -6 AN braided fuel like from that to the russel fitting Black X shows in the first post and that clicks onto the fuel rail...and walla!! as far as the return like from the filter to the line headed back to the pump...i found a pice of stock GM line about a foot long with push on ends on both sides to use...

to start here is my photo album of the swap. some names and faces have been changed to protect the innocent:

cgmerriner/truck swap - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I started with a 05 5.3 4l60e combo. with 13k miles on it. These were going in to my 99 reg. cab s-10 (it was an xtreme in it previous life) 400 miles after getting the swap done I had to rebuild it due to trash in #6 cyclinder. I will pick up from the rebuild with the motor. but will cover what I used to get to the swap done.

Motor:

05 5.3
all new bearings, new #6 piston, thunder racing cam package using adv. dur. 265/271 lift 522/529 lobe sep. 114deg
thunder racing push rods, with new valve springs. also went to ls7 lifters(fully jacketed roller) arp head bolts.

TRUCK intake i used from an 03. I converted the motor over to cable driven TB. I blocked of the egr plate on the side of the intake. I have ha no problems with this set up.

fuel system:

I used a walbro 255 pump in the stock tank with stock fuel lines to the filter. from the filter I used the same fittings that BlackX used, this carried -6 line all the way to and from the fuel rail (I am running a returned system) I used a fuel pressure gauge that I got from ebay in the shrader valve. no problems with the fuel system as of yet (future plans commith)

cooling:

I used becools automatic s-10 aluminum rad (I live in florida) with a flex-a-lite 210 fan set up. (used on another v8 sime I had too) factory t-stat and a big tranny cooler that is mounted in front on the core support. see pictures. I dont know what hoses I used, I bent coat hanger up the ravaged the parts house. I ended up using two piece to make one. I dont like it but it works ,and if anyone else has used the truck set up and found a good upper rad hose please let me know. no temperature issues yet.

wiring:

Currentperformance, enough said!!!!!

Accessory set up:

yes, the kriptonite of the s-10 lsx swap. I used 100% all 05 truck acc. set up. the frame was notched for the ac compressor. the pw steering cleared the box, and the alternater cleared the hood (with the help of a cut off wheel to some hood bracing) now this worked because of how my motor set in there. I took a shot in the dark and hit. I AM NOT SAYING IT WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE. but if you happen to have it all try it. I dont want a bunch of people pming me saying "you said this and you said that and it did not work for me, I spent all this money because of you." that said, that is why I am typing right now, to help you from my experience of my swap.

Exaust:

99 F-body manifolds, modified. from there I used a flowmaster 2.5" universal kit with all madural bends. pieced the the exaust together myself. runs over to the passenger side, h pipes the runs throught 2 magnaflow mufflers exiting with turndowns at the rear end.

Oil Pan:

I used the truck pan, I had a friend cut 2" out of the bottom and square off the front of the pan were it dips into the oil holding area. he also modified the pickup tube.

Coil packs:

I used some off a late model truck, they are more round and if you can find them and the holding brackets you will win! I myself robbed them off a friends truck and used them on mine, these jems DO NOT require you to relocate the rear coils!

Misc. notes:

I used jegs universal tranny x member to eliminate the factory bulk one, I used JTR lsx mounts (Current performace has them) 2.8 lower mounts with poly inserts. and a poly tranny mount. 4.3 cruse and throttle cable. factory blazer console with floor shifter. all the pictures I have posted are in the link i gave at the beginning.

Future Plans:

picked up a lap top couple weeks ago and hp tuners will be on its way. time for some real world tuning. (blackX I have to pick you brain on this)

8.5 rear end of this month, getting rid of vette wheels and starting the new suspension set up.

and the video

about how much grand total did you spend on the whole swap!

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

Hey, I just got an entire wrecked 2005 4wd yukon, with a low miles 5.3 for next to nothing. I have been reading into this heavily and the general concensus is to swap in a T56 if you want to go manual trans. I have a 95 S-10, 4.3, w 5 speed trans, I hear that the NV3500 has a hard time living up to the torque of a V8, but how weak are they really? I don't have the cash for a T56 at the moment since im buying everything else for the swap. All I really want to do to the 5.3 is put in an LS6 cam, headers, and maybe an LS6 intake down the road. I REALLY don't want an automatic.
Great writeup BTW

Mine has the frame notched and the other popular way is to do it like Black X did his in his sticky.

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

Hey I just figured I would throw this out there. I saw where some people had to buy a piece of quick connect line to attach to the corvette fuel filter outlet so they could get a russell adapter fitting to fit. Well after buying the corvette fuel filter, I returned it and tried one for a 03' 2.2L Flex fuel S-10 like BlackX's. If these pics uploaded correctly the first pic should be the corvette filter (Wix 33737) and the second should be the S-10 one (Wix 33100). The S-10 has the male quick connect outlet already, so all you have to do is snap on the russel fitting and you are good to go. I hope this all makes sense. Let me know what you guys think.

Great information, I get asked all the time where to get the piece of quick connect line... I didnt use the vette filter because my truck has the filter shown.

Just for anyone needing information the 2.2L Flex fuel filter is GM PART# 15077584

Is there a shorter dryer to use? It seems my a/c compressor like black x used is basically making it impossible to use the s10 one.
