Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

This is an awesome post i really needed something llike this, im getting ready to swap an 01 vette ls1 into my 93! I love your truck, and whats done to the motor performance wise, and what all was involved in makeing it run 10.81 at 129? I'm shooting for mid 11's with mine, but would love for it to go faster!

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

My A/C works fine and is computer controlled. I think all BlackX is using is the cycling switch on the Accumulator. So I get the idle bump and all that good stuff...ICE COLD too. Either way works...just I wanted PCM control so it will kick off at wot and all that good stuff

Mine is also fully PCM controlled. Off at WOT or above 5000rpm. Idle bump and all that fun stuff.

Ah ok my bad...for some reason I was thinking your skipped the 3wire sensor on the high pressure side. Then well I guess we both are running just fine and happy haha

to start here is my photo album of the swap. some names and faces have been changed to protect the innocent:

cgmerriner/truck swap - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I started with a 05 5.3 4l60e combo. with 13k miles on it. These were going in to my 99 reg. cab s-10 (it was an xtreme in it previous life) 400 miles after getting the swap done I had to rebuild it due to trash in #6 cyclinder. I will pick up from the rebuild with the motor. but will cover what I used to get to the swap done.

Motor:

05 5.3
all new bearings, new #6 piston, thunder racing cam package using adv. dur. 265/271 lift 522/529 lobe sep. 114deg
thunder racing push rods, with new valve springs. also went to ls7 lifters(fully jacketed roller) arp head bolts.

TRUCK intake i used from an 03. I converted the motor over to cable driven TB. I blocked of the egr plate on the side of the intake. I have ha no problems with this set up.

fuel system:

I used a walbro 255 pump in the stock tank with stock fuel lines to the filter. from the filter I used the same fittings that BlackX used, this carried -6 line all the way to and from the fuel rail (I am running a returned system) I used a fuel pressure gauge that I got from ebay in the shrader valve. no problems with the fuel system as of yet (future plans commith)

cooling:

I used becools automatic s-10 aluminum rad (I live in florida) with a flex-a-lite 210 fan set up. (used on another v8 sime I had too) factory t-stat and a big tranny cooler that is mounted in front on the core support. see pictures. I dont know what hoses I used, I bent coat hanger up the ravaged the parts house. I ended up using two piece to make one. I dont like it but it works ,and if anyone else has used the truck set up and found a good upper rad hose please let me know. no temperature issues yet.

wiring:

Currentperformance, enough said!!!!!

Accessory set up:

yes, the kriptonite of the s-10 lsx swap. I used 100% all 05 truck acc. set up. the frame was notched for the ac compressor. the pw steering cleared the box, and the alternater cleared the hood (with the help of a cut off wheel to some hood bracing) now this worked because of how my motor set in there. I took a shot in the dark and hit. I AM NOT SAYING IT WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE. but if you happen to have it all try it. I dont want a bunch of people pming me saying "you said this and you said that and it did not work for me, I spent all this money because of you." that said, that is why I am typing right now, to help you from my experience of my swap.

Exaust:

99 F-body manifolds, modified. from there I used a flowmaster 2.5" universal kit with all madural bends. pieced the the exaust together myself. runs over to the passenger side, h pipes the runs throught 2 magnaflow mufflers exiting with turndowns at the rear end.

Oil Pan:

I used the truck pan, I had a friend cut 2" out of the bottom and square off the front of the pan were it dips into the oil holding area. he also modified the pickup tube.

Coil packs:

I used some off a late model truck, they are more round and if you can find them and the holding brackets you will win! I myself robbed them off a friends truck and used them on mine, these jems DO NOT require you to relocate the rear coils!

Misc. notes:

I used jegs universal tranny x member to eliminate the factory bulk one, I used JTR lsx mounts (Current performace has them) 2.8 lower mounts with poly inserts. and a poly tranny mount. 4.3 cruse and throttle cable. factory blazer console with floor shifter. all the pictures I have posted are in the link i gave at the beginning.

Future Plans:

picked up a lap top couple weeks ago and hp tuners will be on its way. time for some real world tuning. (blackX I have to pick you brain on this)

8.5 rear end of this month, getting rid of vette wheels and starting the new suspension set up.

and the video

Was your truck an original 5spd? If so what mods do I need to make to drop a 5.3 4l60e combo in. I have a 2003 zq8 4.3 5spd

2.2 5 speed

I was having issues with building to much pressure up in my ac system. it would blow cold as hell till I went and drove it. then it would blow the compressor seals. have not driven truck in weeks. been rolling my 50$ beater. just taken care of little stuff on the truck......

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

Hey Guys,

I have been reading this thread for about an hour now and there are a few questions I have. First, I have a 1996 2.2L 5 Speed. I want to put a 1998 Corvette LS1 with a T56 Trans in it. I have read every thread and no one has mentioned what Bell Housing will work. Also, Besides what has already been Mentioned, is there anything else major I should know?

Thank you all for all your help,

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

i was lookin at some other guys swap and other than the booster clearance issue he had to notch a huge chunk out of his A/C box?? i haven't seen anyone even mention this yet. Do you have to do it or by using standard swap mounts does it clear ok?

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

The rear two coils using the square Fbody coils will hit both the booster and the A/C box. If you switch to the round truck style coils...you will clear...but then you have to deal with the fuel rail exiting right into the coil pack. What I did was used the round coils on the rear 2 and the square coils on the front 6. Or you can just modify the one coil to drop it down some and clear the fuel line.

Oil pans...Has anyone figured out a bolt in replacement for a 00 2wd? I saw the stuff about the 55 chevy pan, but can anyone confirm this?

In order to make the LS1 function as stock...and integrate the LS1 3wire pressure switch and have fans kick on and idle bump up....if you are using the STOCK compressor (variable displacement) all you need to do is get a High Pressure line from a 96+ 2.2l S10 truck with manual air....it has a fitting for a sensor that is identical to the LS1 sensor already in line. So you just plug in the 3wire plug for the A/C sensor and it works fine...because you are using the stock Compressor. NOW....for those who do like BlackX and many others and dont want to notch the frame for A/C clearance...and use a Sanden 508 or other single wire compressor...things get a little different. You still want to retain the LS1 PCM control...you still need the 2.2l high side line and 3wire sensor for the A/C...BUT you also will need the 4.3l accumulator and cycling switch. What you do is your A/C request wire from inside the cab...you run into this cycling switch (low pressure switch on accumulator) then into the PCM. Then it cycles on and off like stock and no worries about the variable displacement garbage. So in essence it works like stock...fans turn on...everything is good. hope this helps any others.
So,If you get the sanderson compressor, tell Jared befor he does the harnes?I want the engine to bump up a little to when you turn the ac on...just having a time or two understanding that...lol(by the way, good info!)

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

Yes tell him what compressor you are running so he knows what plans you have for your A/C. He will either flash a truck or fbody program depending on what you wanna do. For his tune with the 3wire fbody sensor and the stock compressor of course it will use the Fbody programing. If you run a low pressure cycling switch and something like a SD-508 he will run a truck program which doesnt use the 3wire sensor. So to answer it...yes let him know EXACTLY what your plans are with the A/C so he can send it back to you correctly.

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

Temp...on a hotttt day in town...210. On the highway cruising 75mph it runs about 212 constant. That both with A/C on MAX. Without A/C on in town it will run about 190 on hot day and about 180 on highway at 75mph. That is with a HD 4.3l radiator and Flex 220 fan setup. Gas mileage...well right now I am only getting about 15-17mpg average. Longest cruise was 100 miles round trip and got about 18mpg cruising at 80. I am thinking I need to tweak my tune a little. Seems kinda low mpg for 3.42 rear 27" tall tire on cruise. I was expecting at least in the 20's. Around town its still hard to keep my foot out of it cause I love the exhaust rumble. Other than that...LOVE IT! I have about 1000 well earned miles on it so far...hasnt skipped a beat yet.

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

You need to get a Cable X setup. It makes the 4000ppm electronic speedo signal and converts it to a cable driven speedo. You can pick them up from dif places. Look to spend like 250 or so on one though. But its the only way I know to make a cable speedo work with an electronic speedo signal

Re: ******PARTS LIST AND SWAP INFO FROM BLACK X****** LSX Swap.

There is another oilpan alternative for the 1st gen guys with a 4x4.

I just bought this oilapn from TurboTime.

It's a bit spendy at $552, but it's a bolt in item with no modifications needed.

I wonder if this will work for a @nd Gen 4x4. How different is the 1st gen from the 2nd gen 4wd setup. I always thought they were the same...maybe a few frame dif. Would like to know...cause if it fits I might have to make a 2nd gen AWD

HI, I think this is a good place for the question. lol
So here goes,... I have just started looking it to the hole LSx swap thing, and I just wanted to know what part controls the tranny? (shifting etc)....
Like would the Current Performance Wiring harness have the necessary plugs to make it work? Or do I have to use part of the trucks harness?
Sorry for the newb question. Thanks for your help. (ps 5.3 4l60e)
