Obdii

Since my 92 truck will now have OBD2 with the new engine and harness...for emissions isnt it possible to do something about the 02 sensors? So i dont have to worry about passing?

Re: Obdii

Im missing something, what do you want to do to the oxygen sensors?

You can turn the rear ones on or off, and OBDII vehicles have pre and post cat o2s. You may be able to get a way without the post cat o2s since your year vehicle didnt come with them originally maybe???

Re: Obdii

Yea i saw on LS1tech getting rid of the rear ones makes emissions alot easier. HPtuners does that right? Can a shop do that too or can they get in trouble about that?

And i was thinking when i go to get emissions i thought there was a way to change the computer so when they plug the obd2 in it will say i pass emissions even if im not? thought i read that somewhere?

Re: Obdii

it depends on your state and their emissions requirements. certain systems can be "tuned" out (AIR, EGR, etc), but youll fail the test if theya re looking for those systems and they arent there. same thing with the O2 sensors...youre best checking to see what you need to pass, especially in a swap vehicle; they may require all the emissions equipment from the donor vehicle to be active.

Re: Obdii

Only thing i can find for the state of WA is that they will check your gas cap and then give you the OBD2 test or tail pipe if you dont have OBD2

Re: Obdii

sounds like here in IL, but they dont test non odbII cars here for now. they just check the gas cap, then check the computer for codes and system readiness. like i said earlier, if you have certain things tuned out, you would pass as long as they arent looking for it because the computer is going to indicate that all applicable systems are ready.

Re: Obdii

They should check the vehicle for what emissions that year is normally checked against in your area. If they normally check you car/truck for a light on the dash that's what they should check for. It should be fairly easy to get it to pass what ever they test your year for with your swap as long as you dont have some really radical cam in it.

Re: Obdii

Yea im just worried about the 02 sensors. A sticky on ls1tech said that the rear 02 sensors should be removed when swapping because those will sometimes show the SES light or whatever and that will stop me from passing....but i guess we will find out

Re: Obdii

if your harness already has them wired in, id just leave them. especially if your still running the other emissions equipment. the post cat O2's are the cat's efficiency monitors if something emissions wise is not functioning correctly they pick it up and throw a code... therefore saving you a trip to the inspection shop b/c if you don't have the post cat O2's you wont know somethings not working correctly untill they run the "tailpipe" test and tell you... just my 2cents. but then again it all depends on your area, check and see what tests they can do to year model then make a decision off that.
