LSX Swap Installation Pics

I know it seems too little too late, but I finally found my camera so I thought I would take a few pics of the installed LSX/trans.

Enjoy!

The engine is sitting in its forward-most position, using LS6 accesories. This allowed no modifications to the trans x member or driveshaft shortening.

Looks factory doesn't it?

Another angle:

Not a great pic but if you look close you can see where the trans mount used to sit. NOw it sits 1/2" closer to the front!

X Member bolted in stock location:

Bad angle pic of power steering and gear box clearance:

My fuel setup. Using the return style fuel rail from my "98 Vette and Russell adapter fittings with factory feed/return lines at stock filter. The ss lines are 6' -6 line bought from www.summitracing.com. They are the PERFECT length!

Rail pics. I had to bend up both lines a little in order to clear the truck coils.

H3 oil pan and crossmember clearance:

No thanks.......I have the set off my C5 that I dont use anymore due to different intake on it. Besides I would have to swap truck coils for the ones on my C5 to make them work.

I guess your truck isn't lowered for you to select that oil pan?

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

The fuel rails themselves I know they are the 97-98 corvette rails, but I've searched and haven't found a decent priced set

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

This rail came off my '98 Vette. I converted it to work with a returnless fuel system when I installed a direct port nitrous kit so I had it sitting in a box for years.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

I am thinking about doing this to a 2003 but using the L31 motor. How did you wire it in? I have been looking for a week to try to find how to do it right. I keep hitting roadblocks!!! can you help?

also is there any way to put fuel injection on a mid 80's short block. If I cant find a good L31 I have thought of doing that. I have an older 4bolt main with teh lowerend still built and good. Its just alll Carb and I want fuel injection. I am jsut wondering if I can change the heads and put an air plentium on or not.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

It will prob cost just as much to convert your engine to EFI as it is to buy a used 4.8 or 5.3. I would do the latter.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

i was just thinkink about it, but i recall your going with a t56? so if you put the engine all the way forward on the mounts, this would mean your shifter would be up further also. you would be able to have a smaller shifter unless you had really long arms

Yes, I pulled the 4L60E out with the motor, had it built, and reinstalled it with the LS motor.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

I already have the block and lower end built. I was going to buy some aluminum heads and go from there. I want at least a 350 and not 327. I just want to run fuel injection

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

Do some research on EFI components including PCM, TCM, etc., I understand your point, but it costs a few dollars to convert anything to EFI, especially if you have no EFI parts to start with.

I am getting mine through a buddy that has a Corvette performance shop, RPM Motors Inc. I have done a LOT of business with this guy for my C5 and he has a contact that makes custom harnesses.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

Ok, very minor update. I got bored tonight and decided to take a couple more pics of the more completed engine bay, nothing exciting, just like seeing a LSX instead of 3/4 SBC.

All cleaned up after sitting for 2 months

Just a hair under 2 months, working on it little by little in between carpet jobs and getting ready for our move to WA.

If I had all the parts, 2 weeks sounds about right to me, taking my time and not rushing.

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

FINALLY....... After 2 wiring harnesses later and deciding to just spend the money with Jared at CPW, I got it to fire early this afternoon. Had some trouble with Passkey, but finally got it going.

Here is a BAD quality video of it running, open headers (nothing after the Sandersons):

Re: LSX Swap Installation Pics

Gonna keep it simple and do 2.5" y-pipe from the Sandersons into 3" collector, a single pipe w/cat, Magnaflow muffler and factory exit location. Undecided if I want to go as far as chrome tip or anything. I'll post up pics and better video tomorrow.
