I've been looking alot at the new upcomming LS9 engine and it looks like the supercharger on that engine could be a good choice for the s10 swaps. Any one know of any dimensional data on the supercharger?

Re: LS9 Super charger
thought the same thing, looks good height-wise. the front accessories are in different positions though so i guess youd have to notch the frame for A/C if you wanted to keep it.

Re: LS9 Super charger
From what I've been following on the corvette forum, it won't be just a simple swap. It takes a specific water pump, it uses a 10 rib belt, makes a lot of boost, so either pistons and/or bigger CC heads.
Much simpler to use what is currently available. Even if it would "fit" the cost of this unit, being a GM "performance" part, the cost will be high an availability low. |

But yes a magnacharger is easier to get a hold of and proven in other applications |

Re: LS9 Super charger
Kenne Bell makes a supercharger for LSx and Corvette applications, it's a rather large displacement one to if you're looking to make some big #'s.

Re: LS9 Super charger
Let's not forget that it will only fit the LS3/L92 heads.
And those will only work on an engine with a 4" bore. So it starts getting more and more complicated as you go. It uses the new helix Eaton blower unit which is the same thing Magnacharger is currently releasing. |

Re: LS9 Super charger
Yep, it's based on an LS3 block. The cam, pistons, rods, water pump, oil pump, bolts, brackets, pulleys, heads....are unique to the ZR1

Re: LS9 Super charger
http://www.cadillac.com/cadillacjsp/.../news_ctsv.jsp as far as MPG and CAFE standards, thats what the T56 and T6060, and the new family of xLxxE transmissions are for lol. more gears, pushes the MPG numbers higher and higher. my friend with a T56 f-body, full exhaust, TB, bellows, hell idk what all he has done, but his car on average, his weekly driving he is seeing 22-26mpg. on highway trips(long trips), he swears he has tapped into 30mpg once or twice. |

Re: LS9 Super charger
i'm rockin the t56, i agree it gets good gas mileage when you get up in 6th cruisin on the interstate, i mean hell i've got 4.10's in the rearend and i only cut like 1900 at 75mph. i usually average right around 24 on the hwy and maybe 25 if i only go like 60. but i've got a pretty stout tune. its definitly not for best MPG numbers
i could believe 26, maybe 27 but 30+ is mildly far fetched, not sayin its not possible, just saying its not probable. but blackx is really good at tuning and he says he got around 30 on his 5.3. so who knows but CAFE requires 35mpg for new production models. the next vette they are looking at only has like a 4.7l v8 in it, but its mostly carbon fiber so the power to weight ratio is suppose to be better than the current z06. i just like big motors, and big HP numbers. the automotive industry is going to go through some major changed over the next decade, kinda like the 80's. i'm sure there is light at the end of the tunnel, just until then we kinda have to suffer a little. theres alot of option that are being explored, HCCI, diesel, fuel cells, hydrogen(not probable without controlable nuclear fusion reactions for electrolysis). somethings going to take the cake. i'm personally banking on HCCI for the short term and hydrogen for the long term Last edited by jnoehl : 02-10-2008 at 01:41 PM. |
