LS7 is in, and alive!!

I know it's not an S-10, but it's done and ready to get down to the dyno on Tuesday.

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

Yep, we were debating on whether to put the oil tank in the bed or not, and we got it to fit under the hood. That is what the customer preferred, so that's what we did.
Came out pretty good.

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

The truck is an '09. Started out with a 5.3, so actually the swap was pretty straight forward other than the oil tank, and a few other odds and ends.
The mounts are factory, radiator is fine, fuel lines are all factory.
The biggest pain in the a$$ was fitting the 1-7/8" Kooks Trailblazer SS Headers.

Yeah I've been on craigslist looking around for parts and see that you've got the 5.3 out of it for sale...

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

Yep, stock engine straight outta the crate. Didn't want to void the warranty on the engine. We discussed switching to the wet sump, but it would have voided the warranty also.
We'll see how he likes it, maybe boost in the future or something.

Looks good. It's the bad ass sport truck that GM would never consider.

Does the owner have any other plans for the truck?

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

do the LS engines sit in a more balanced spot in the colorados compared to the S10? as in does the front of the engine sit right above the front crossmember or hang over a lot like the S10...?

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

I would say yes... They don't set as far over the front wheels as they do on the S-trucks.
Here is the dyno sheet of stock vs. LS7:

I was under the impression that all vehicles upgraded to the 4L65E around '06/'07, but apparently, this is a 4L60E still.

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

Since the truck already had a 58x 5.3 then probably not too bad...mounts/headers/new exhaust/wiring would be straight forward...Mostly just the cost of the engine....

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

i would venture just shy of 30g's otd! plus cost of a 09 extended cab colorado! http://www.internetautoguide.com/200...316/index.html, rough est. 55g's give or take a few grand, less sale of new 5.3? say 2000 bucks, i would say honest total cost 55g's or so. could buy a used 08-09 z06 vette for that! http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...=&_osacat=6001

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

fvck that. for 45 grand u can build one hell of a muscle car that would stomp that colorado and be cooler. its a nice truck but he could have put a new cam and rebuilt that 5.3 with a supercharger and prob could have gotten the power up around the same for about 6-10k not 25k........

i know if i was to spend 45k it wouldnt be on a colorado no mater how cool u make it its still and midsize truck thats worth nothing near what u have into it. its the same with a s10 u cant get more then 10k out of a s10 thats baged ans had a lsx swap no matter how hard u try u cant make money off of the trucks so i dont know why ud do it.... My .02 cents tho.

I can find lots of people in the world who would have opinions about how much money we all spend on our trucks. I could find probably 100 for every 1 member on this site who would say that the money we spent on our trucks is Just not worth it no matter how you slice it.
At least he spent it on the engine, not ground effects, 32" wheels, and a big spoiler.

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

not to bash his ride, it def a very cool and fairly rare Colorado, it does have a ls7 you know! and if you got the money and thats what you really want then its really not about the money, but if i was to sit back and say ok heres 45 grand to spend on a vehicle what would i want? i would prob get a really clean an modded supra or a realllyy nice chevelle, i have always wanted both of those cars, but its his money and if he wanted to drop that motor in a metro then its his choice, but its def a big chunk of change to do.you know for this kind of money i could have a nicely used tbss, and a decent bbc chevelle! hmmm. wonder if the banks are loaning money like water still! haha! oh just as a comparison this guy dropped over a 120k in this vette and its goin for less than the cost of this truck and it has 800 rwhp.

i def agree with u there. Its cool dont get me wrong and it was done verrry nice i just wouldnt spend the money on it. Then again most ppl wont spend the money to lift a 2wd like i did. its all personal preferance and i bet the thing hauls ass.

Re: LS7 is in, and alive!!

very nice. would be cool if its kept stock looking, just upgrade the rear end and some fatter tires for traction. The motor is awesome, but the price tag keeps most of us away from it. You could get the same gains from a modified LS1, but it is nice to have an LS7!

Hope to see more of it, maybe a magazine feature

i couldn't agree more, since i got my truck together i have counless ppl say to me "drop it an slam some 20's on it" so typical. i'd rather next to no show and alot of go.
