LS2 Swap

I am looking to do an LS2 in a 98-02 S10. What does it take to do?? I know that you would need motor mounts, wiring harness, headers, and a good rear-end. If I missed anything, please put it down. Where do you get the stuff?? Does anyone have any pics of the completed swap?? Thanks, Robert H.

Re: LS2 Swap

Just search for ls1 swaps, its all the same. Its really not worth the $ to go ls2 unless money is no object and you just want to say you did it.And lastly 95% of people don't know the difference between an ls1 and an ls2 or a "vette motor".Both motors can hit 450rwhp fairly easy with the slight edge going to the ls2,having more ci.There is a couple of active threads on here and some really good info on ls1tech.

Re: LS2 Swap

Money is a problem. I know that an LS2 makes about 400 HP and is a little bigger, but is there any other advantages??

Re: LS2 Swap

No not really. The ls2 is rated at around 400 at the flywheel, the fbody ls1 is rated at anywhere from 305-335 at the flywheel (under-rated).An ls1 with headers will be on par with an ls2.For the money saved on going with an fbody ls1 you could put towards bolt-ons that would run even better yet.

Re: LS2 Swap

The LS2 makes more power. Other than that there's no advantage. The swap will be exactly the same with the exception of spending way more money on the motor. And LS1 can make some more power with a few boltons anyways.

Re: LS2 Swap

someone is lying to you. LS2s dont have to cost that much more... has anyone here actually done an LS2 swap? There are expensive ways to do swap, and cheap ways - not neccessarily meaning half-assed either. I would say you could get away with spending $1000 - $1500usd more on the swap, which isnt really that much seeing how most Gen III conversions going around are up into the $8000usd mark

Re: LS2 Swap

The swap alone doesn't cost anymore its just the price of the engine.ls1's are almost 10 years old and ls2's are not quite 3 yrs old yet.On ebay the price is almost double.

Re: LS2 Swap

The ls2's have better heads from the factory, coupled with the extra cubes, they have put down 450+rwhp with cam only, which is heads+cam territory for an ls1.

Re: LS2 Swap

There have been just as many ls1's put down 450rwhp cam only as there has been ls2's...Not very many. The ls2 heads are the same as ls6 heads w/different valves maybe worth around 10-15 hp.

Re: LS2 Swap

How many cam only stock bottom end ls1's have put 450rwhp? Sure there aren't a lot of ls2's around yet so you can't really compare not to mention they're run through a irs setup which sucks more power. The heads on a cammed car are going to give closer to an extra 25hp, not to mention the heads are going to flow better on the 4.0 bore.

Re: LS2 Swap

I was only going do cam, heads and maybe a 100 shot. Down the line, I thinking about a procharger or a turbo. Is there room for either? I saw the lingenfelter sonoma, but thats just not practicle for me to have the radiator in the bed. What about this?

It would def. need a new hood for clearance. Thanks for all the help!!

You will not ever need a turbo or anything else for that engine swap. The stock s10 frame will not take that kind of punishment for long.
