driveshaft question. what tranny did you go with and did you have the shaft shortened? do you have any issues with binding or anything?

I'm using the 4L60e trans -- I had to have the shaft shortened. There are no problems with binding. If you are having some binding then you will need to make sure that the shafts are are aligned correctly. I do have a sheet at work that I can fax to you that shows and explains how to align your shaft. I'm assuming that you still have the two piece one used on X-cabs.

Re: ls1 swap guys in here

how much did you guys have it shortened? here is the problem i'm having. i had a shaft shortened. i told the shop 3/8" and they did 1 and 3/8". so now the slip joint right after the carrier bearing is maxed out and is at a really bad angle. the shop won't fix it because they said i told them 1 and 3/8". i bought another front piece but the only one i could find was from a 95 s10 with the 2.2L and 5 speed. mine was a 96 2.2l 5 speed. they changed trannies in 96 so the 95 shaft is about an inch longer. its about 17" from weld to weld. i'm just trying to figure out exactly what length i need. i can't jack up the truck and get under and measure right now because every time i do the people at my apartment complex get all pissed because i put dents in their new asphalt. one i can get it to a friends place i'll jack it up and see. i just wanted to get some info on what other people did.

The green 96 (regular cab short bed) has the stock S10 shaft, just got rid of that balancer or whatever u call it on the rear of the shaft. And its running the T56.. The white Xtreme (extended cab) has a custom made 1 piece shaft 3.5" diameter i believe. And that also has the T56

Re: ls1 swap guys in here

I just gave the place that makes our shafts the dimensions from the trans to center support and from center support to the diff , then gave them my old shaft and the next day it was done.
Have you tried to loosening up the center support and sliding it back, this will give you some more engagement. If the angle on the shaft is realy bad you will need to align everything,
trans -- center support -- diff.
