LS1 Questions

I have been thinking about putting a ls1 with a t56 in my truck for sometime now (99 Xtreme 4.3 5spd) and i had some questions. Is 3500 a good price for a ls1 with a t56 (came out of a wrecked trans am) that includes the wiring and computer, front cross member with engine mounts, shifter, pedals, and the hydrolics for clutch? I've been looking around and I can't seem to find any others cheaper than that price. Also does anyone know if I will be able to use my stock console? and or will I have to cut the hole back farther for the shifter? I decided that im not gonna have a/c on it so I won't have to mess with any of that. Where can i find long tube headers? all the links that people have posted won't let me go to them. or is the shortys good enough? If anyone knows where I can find an engine cheaper please tell me. 3500 for an engine and trans kinda high. I'm sure I will have more questions later down the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: LS1 Questions

that is pretty high. You can get a trans in the neighborhood of 1500 complete. then engine for 7-900$. Harness/computer is the expensive part, i'd go with Jarred at CPW for less headaches. Send him your stuff and he'll adapt it for you-- 700$ or so~

then accessories, mounts, headers, all that other jazz adds up quick. It's not a cheap swap

Re: LS1 Questions

Yeah i was thinking that it is pretty high. it came out of a 2000 ws6 with 44000 miles on it. anybody know any good places where i can get a ls1 or ls2 for not a bad price? everyone i found on ebay is pretty high. if i could find a ls2 for kinda cheap and then get a t56 for around 1500 i'd rather do that any day. if i could find an engine with all the accessories on the front would help alot well if they would work and not hit anything.

Re: LS1 Questions

^ i agree.

OR, search your local salvage yards, and buy the whole car. Deal with the scrap car afterwards.

Re: LS1 Questions

yeah the only thing that suck about my local salvage yards is i live in a small town ha its home of mark twain tho lol so there are like never any ls1 or ls2's in the yards. there arn't really even that many ls1 camaros or gtos around if there are they like to hide haha

Re: LS1 Questions

That's on the high side. If you do a little research and hit the sites as listed above, you will get really good deals.

I've been gathering parts for my LS/T56 swap also and have found some stellar deals.

Re: LS1 Questions

I also wanted to add. It all depends on how much work you want to do yourself. If you don't mind doing more work, you can get even better deals. But if you want plug and play, you won't get as good a deal.

If I run across any deals, I'll throw them at you.

Re: LS1 Questions

i bought my trans for 800$. just needed a new 3-4 shift fork.

Did the re-build myself. Alot of fun! learned alot too.

SO the extra 250$ for the rebuild kit was worth it

Re: LS1 Questions

I've found really good deals by looking at Craigslist every day and religiously. The good stuff goes really fast so if you can keep a constant eye on it, you'll get the deals.

Re: LS1 Questions

I found one for $400 but it needs synchros. I don't see stellar deals on T56s very often but saw some in the 500 - 700 range on racing junk a while back.
