ls1 questions

im planing on swaping in a ls1 and i need to get some help from you guys. my truck is an 02 extended cab 4.3 auto and am swappin a 00 ls1 out of a z28. will my stock fuel pump flow enough for the new motor? will a ls2 oil pan work on a ls1 ( cause it looks to be shorter ) would it require less crossmember modifications? also, if i swapped my accesories brackets out for corvette ones would i still need to notch the frame for any componants?
thanks alot,
rob

Re: ls1 questions

I believe with the ls2 pan you don't have to notch as much, but have to redo the drain plug. As for the corvette accessories, yes you should be able to get away without notching into the frame either since the a/c mounts high.

Re: ls1 questions

The stock 4.3L fuel pump should be fine, you use a corvette fuel filter to change the lines to the right size for the engine.

Re: ls1 questions

even with the corvette acces. if you plan on keeping the A/C compressor in the stock spot..you have to notch into the frame...it still doesnt fully clear. As for the LS2 pan...you dont have to notch the whol back of the xmember...just the top side of it...as far as the drain plug..its easy...drill a hole through the xmember and weld a pipe into it...it works like a funnel....and some people....have gotten away without any mods to be able to drain it still.

Re: ls1 questions

The p/s hose and cap numbers aren't working. Thanks still!

So you only ordered the a/c from hotrodlane.cc? And then purchased the rest ahh...

Do any of the accessories overlap with the stock 5.3L accesories before i go crazy spending?

I was hoping the guy that started the blazer conversion and used the ls2 pan would chime in since he said he didn't have to notch...

Re: ls1 questions

dude i just finished the swap.. I had a huge thread about the whole swap before the forum went down... i know almost everything there is to know... the only way NOT to notch the frame is to cut the truck pan up to clear the frame and the ground..

OR... put spacers under the mounts and use the ls2 pan...

The blazer engine mounts are higher up. Someone had just started a project of it and had pics and everything where it cleared because of this. The aspect of having a body lift and higher engine mounts is very nice.

yes i know.. all blazers have higher frame isolator pads... if you want to be lazy or for some other reason you dont want to cut the crossmember your going to have to use the ls2 pan and make the motor sit like an inch or so higher... your going to have to work around the brake booster and the a/c box if you do that but thats the price you pay for not cutting the crossmember... Otherwise its not going to work out...

if your so worried just cut the truck pan up but that isn't the best idea either because once u cut/weld hardend aluminum its not going to be hardend anymore... and if you do this make sure you patch the parts of the pan you cut out back up with the pieces of spare pan you have... and use a tig... you dont want to go mixing metals up with the stock pan because it wont hold... and there isn't a metal that can compare to what gm casts their oil pans out of... measure 10 times before you cut because your going to need all the pieces of the pan you cut out...

Re: ls1 questions

and until i did this swap not cutting the frame was unheard of... With what i've learned and what 99Bucket has done it was made possible... but before us it basically was not possible...

although i did end up cutting the crossmember...

Re: ls1 questions

Only thing that sucks is do I buy a engine new from GM (since I work for them) or get one at a junkyard. Id like to stroke it etc so atleast if I buy a new crate motor I could sell off the parts I dont use to pay for the new stuff.
