Just another 6.0/T56 build
This project has been in the works for awhile just had to find the right time to do it. I'm a mechanic for a living so mine is always the last to get worked on. The motor is a 6.o out of a 2003 denali that I scored for $500. I bought brand new L92 heads for the build. The pistons are Diamond pistons that are at the factory right getting fly cut for L92 heads. I'm running a cam in the 25X/25X range. The lift will be in the .640-.650 range w/ LSA of 111-112 degrees. Won't know 100 percent till the pistons get back and install them in the block to measure. The T56 is already built. The rear end is a Ford 8.8 out of a Ford explorer. I just ordered the wiring from Current since the time frame is 8 weeks to get this project ready. I'll be running 18X9.5 wheels in the front and 18X10.5 in the rear. I've included pics of the "victim",the trans and the heads. More to come.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Good start. It's nice to see a project that begins with a builder who has done his research. Good luck with that camshaft! It'll be a beast to tune, that's for sure but the 6.0L's displacement tempers that a bit...only a bit. And also I'm curious to see how the rim selection goes. 9.5" wide on the front of a 2wd S10 is going to be interesting to bolt up with 3" spacers, so I'll follow this closely.

Sounds like a sweet build and looking at your signature, you have some nice custom builds.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
I pais $1600 for the truck w/ the check engine light on. Wouldn't pass inspection because of catalytic converter. I couldn't pass up the ZQ8 suspension either. The handling of the truck is pretty good since I've been driving it for a year now. It's a little rough around the edges since two teens were originally the drivers of this thing. Will refinish the truck in either PPG hotrod black or might go w/ a chamelon blue/purple.

DROOL!!!!!! Any pics of your other rides? What kind of power are you putting out of your "bi turbo" diesel? I miss the power of my dirtymax but I don't miss the fuel pump price. ![]() |

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
What do you think is better for the belt drive setup? F-body style or the corvette style? My previous one was a truck style. I told Jared at Current to build the harness for corvette style. It was a question that caught me off guard when he asked. I thought I had everything figured out....

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Pulled the pistons out and sent the pistons back to Diamond to get flycut for the L92s. The cam I'm running is about .645 lift at 250 ish duration and don't have enough room. If I ran a baby cam I could. Will be a two week wait on that. Right now I'm installing lights in the garage so I can see. Kept getting the droplight out.

Hit a snag today trying to order a LS7 clutch assemblyfor the truck. Found out that I have to get a LS2 flywheel. Already had a LS1 flywheel ready to go.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Yep. I'm breaking in my ls7 right now. Man you let that clutch up and it wants to go now, no slipping into gear at all. First few shifts were at the floorboard and you had to be in the gas enough or it stalled or popped a gear. 2nd gear keep popping out for awhile and is engaging good now with miles on the transmission. Just a side note I got an auto zone slave cylinder and it leaked bad at the quick connector neck. Went to Napa and got a slave casted with the ap on it and is a much better slave cylinder to use. I have heard that the ls7 clutch kits are hit and miss from sellers. I think the s10 trucks have a longer pedal travel than the camaros. I've got camaro pedals in my garage and will look again. Alot of problems I hear from camaro guys braking in the ls7 clutchs is that some just don't get enough travel to move the new clutch. I could resist a deal for under $500 that gives me pp flywheel and clutch I would guess holds 550hp Yeah, you will loose hp with that mammoth ls2 flywheel but I think lsx has more than enough to spare. |

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
I think I'm going to run the LS1 flywheel and get a spec II or III clutch kit. I don't like the heavier flywheel on the LS2/LS7 set up. Hope my a/c still gets this cold after the swap. It's 100+ today..

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
I'm back. Thanks for all the condolences. Wasn't my immediate family but it was on my wifes side. Did burn $500 worth of diesel tooling around w/ the truck and trailer moving stuff.
Nothing much to report on the build. Still waiting for pistons.... |

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Update of sorts. I'm ordering everything needed to finish the motor. Intake, throttle body, fuel injectors, and fuel rails. Going w/ pressure and return fuel line setup, probably FAST rail set. Figured I already have both lines there... Trying to score on the corvette acc.stuff right now.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Ordered some more stuff today. Ended up going w/ a 238/250 .600/.600 113+3 cam for the setup. All the valvetrain will be Trick Flow components. Valve springs, pushrods, seals, and retainers. Have the L76 intake coming from the dealer. Ordered the UMI 90mm TB for that. Am going w/ FAST fuel rails w/ 46lb injectors. Talked to Diamond pistons today and the pistons are waiting for the skirt coatings. The fly cutting is done. Still looking for the corvette stuff....

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Got the stuff in today. Comp wasn't playing around when the cam got ordered. The cam showed up before the other stuff. The Trick Flow dual gold springs are a work of art. The 90mm throttle body seems kinda big but from what I've been studying it should work fine. The specs on the cam should be about as big as you want to go on a motor w/ L92 heads. Alot of overcammed l92 motors out there. I know I changed cams on yall. I decided the lift was excessive. I was kinda shocked that the LS2 timing chain was made in France. Eek! More pics, enjoy.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Scored on the injectors today. Found out the stock LS7 injectors are 41.19 lb per hour injectors stock. Well.Scoggin Dickey has a surplus of brand new pull outs from crate engines that I got for $35 each. Got the L76 style fuel rail as well. If the LS7 can get 505hp w/ stock rail then it should work fine for me. Still looking at the corvette acc. setup. Looks like I'm going to buy the water pump,balancer,p/s pump, and the bracket brand new. Then buy the kwik performance a/c bracket kit. Getting close.....

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
I finally got the intake today. I've been phone tagging w/ the dealer trying to get it. The mouth where the throttle body goes measures about 95-96mm so my 90mm TB fits just fine. I was worried that I would need to port the intake.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Not much of a update. I've been phone tagging w/ machine shop,UPS,and Diamond pistons. It seems my pistons have been lost at this point and nobody wants to own up. The tracking number confirms that the package made it to Diamond pistons and it was signed by their tech. I'm trying to get another set right now. Will know more tomorrow.

Re: Just another 6.0/T56 build
Arrgh!Looks like I have to park the project for a little bit. Got a friend that lost his job in Oregon and is moving in w/ me in Texas. He's got a temp job to hold him out till December and then he starts a perm job. I'm going to give him my S10 to drive and I'll drive my Powerstroke. I'll still build the motor and post the build but it's going at a slower rate for the time being. If I come across something cheap on Craigslist then I'll buy it to get my truck back.

I hear ya man, at least you still have a good start, and what a friend you are to your buddy. Hopefully he can help you out with some of the part searching / legwork so you should be prepped when you get the truck back in December.
