Just about done! pics inside.

The truck is on the road, about 150 miles so far. I'm just making 3psi right now, but it will be going up soon.

Project is not finished though, it still needs all new plastic parts for the front end. (grille, and airdam, and lights)

I went to a 8.5 rear with 3.42, but it still breaks loose when it shifts into third, so a truetrac, and prob. 3.08 gears are in order.

I've got a stepside bed that needs to go on.

I want to drop the front about two inches, and 3 out back.

Very nice!

Definitely go with the TrueTrac. I really like the way mine reacts to the power.

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

thanks for the compliments guys.

yeah, it's tight. But not quite as bad as it looks in the pics.

There are a couple of things I think I could have done better, and a thing or two I might go back and work on.

1. Wastegate! I spent many hours trying to figure out where it would fit, and had it installed when I finally thought of the perfect place ---- on the rear of the driver side header. put it below the header, and the dump pipe could have gone down the back.

2. I don't like how close the power steering tank is to the Mass air sensor. I will prob. move it as close to the engine as possible.

3. I'm also going to have to do some kind of cold air intake. It's barely 85 outside, and I'm seeing intake temps of 110!

I fabbed it up myself using pretty much just a cordless drill, hand held band saw, and a 220V welder.

Before anyone else says it, I'll say that I know a lot of those welds look pretty ugly.

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

I bought the header flanges off ebay, and the mandrel bends from Summit.

I built the whole thing myself, it was pretty hard getting started, but got easier and easier as I went along.

The serpentine system is form a LS2 vette, with the top mount AC kit from Current Performance. CP also provided the radiator, fans, AC condenser, AC lines, and of course the wiring harness.

The notch was for the factory corvette AC compressor, but I couldn't get enough clearance to be comfortable as a daily driver.

I don't know, it pulls pretty hard. But at 3 PSI it's not mind blowing. If I had to guess, I'd say that I've not passed 400 yet.

I've read other places that some people are getting 600-700 out of a 5.3 with 10-14 psi boost, So I'd say there is a lot of potential left.

thanks.

I've got 24.75" tires, and with the 4L80's smaller OD, I'm running 2000 rpm at 60. I'd like to be at about 1800-1900 at 70. This is my daily driver, so fuel economy and manners are just as important as the power.

By the way, does anyone know of a boost controller that uses a 0-5V reference to control boost?

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

That is sick. I love how tight it is and how everything around the turbo has just enough room to exist and nothing more.lol How come you chose to put the turbo where you did instead of on the drivers side by the washer fluid resivor where you have some room? Also, is that a 5.3? Love the truck man.

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

I saw pictures of a blazer with a front mount on the drivers side, But I honestly can't imagine how they made it work. I had a terrible time getting the driver side header to fit between the block and steering shaft. I'd never be able to get the header and a merge pipe in there. Not to mention getting a three inch downpipe through all the wiring, brake lines, past the steering shaft and out.

When my truck was apart, there seemed to be much more room on the pass side. If I had put the wastegate in a different spot, It would have been a lot less cluttered looking.

yes, it is a 5.3. and thanks, I really like it too.

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

Well, I got a killer deal on the truck to begin with. I bought it about 3 years ago for $2800

I've got a little more than $1000 in the tires and wheels.

a semi conservitave estimate for the engine swap is about $11,000.

Things I need to do:

3.08 gear, truetrac, + installation = $1000
4 link rear suspension = ???

Little update: I bought a complete stepside xtreme kit off the classifieds that should be on the way. when it gets here, I'll be able to put the stepside bed on, and get the truck out for paint.

I also got the 3.08 gear and am just waiting fot the truetrac.

Re: Just about done! pics inside.

$11,000 on a swap that is state of the art. Not bad, not to mention the motors are everywhere. The hard part is over. If you had to pull the motor and drop another 5.3 in it's place, you might pay what $500.00. I hear people are getting over 200,000 miles out of these Lsx motor. Not a bad investment. Go out and buy the new 2010 Camaro and spend $36,000 or $590 a month on the note. I'm with you guys i'll put one together too. Good Deal

Really nice truck man. Are you running spacers in the front with the vette wheels. I really want to run vette wheels when i do my swap but im kinda iffy about the weight of a 6.0 on spacers.

I run a PT88 front mount on the driver side with a 4" downpipe...gotta tell you, the 4" downpipe is TIGHT in there... It is doable however, plugs are not bad doing through the wheel well. the fender well had to be trimmed, fuse box relocated, abs deleted, and windshield washer tank is gone...but it fits and clears the hood, compressor is clocked down and has a pretty much straight shot to the intercooler with a 3" pipe around frame rail...

I've got spacers at all four corners. I'm not worried though, I ran a V8S10 with the same type spacer for about 4 years before.

I have to confess, I've been lazy when it comes to the tuning. A very popular member of this forum sent me a starter tune, and it runs so good I havn't messed with it much. I guess right now I'm just glad to be driving it again.

I don't know of any place with a dyno, and I'm still a track virgin.

12sec ss: Man, I'd really like to see some good build pics.

Bitchin Sonoma: Thanks, I,ve got the step-side xtreme kit in, I think I want to do step shavers and a roll pan for the back.
