Insurance

How do you have your trucks insured? I have about 9500 in my truck now and I am afraid of what the insurance company would give me if I crashed it. So how do you have your trucks insured?

Re: Insurance

I thought about this the other day as well. I have heard some people insure their trucks as exotics - I think that's the correct term.

Re: Insurance

I would recommend full disclosure to your insurance company. I provide my company with a detailed build sheet and they provide an inexpensive rider for my policy. This way, if it's damagaed or stolen, I'll be completely covered.

In addition, if you are in an injury accident and an adjuster looks at your truck and sees the V8, nitrous, 6-speed, etc and you haven't notified them of the modifications, they could cancel your policy and not pay any claims.

This may require searching for another insurance company that will provide the coverage.

Re: Insurance

I gave a full disclosure and copies of all recipets for my truck. My insurance did what they called an agreed value policy. They took all the reciepts and together we came up with what a fair number was and they insured it for that dollar amount. Which in my case is 11,500.

Re: Insurance

yeah i've got a "vehicle replacement policy" to where if mine gets totaled, they cut me a check for x amount that we agree the vehicle is valued at, its with allstate, but i pay way to much for it. funny this comes up, i'm going to geico and progressive today to sit down and talk with a sales rep see what they can do for me

Re: Insurance

I went with Progressive for mine....and it only made the premium go up $51 per 6 months with the agreed value of 11,500. Book value on my 1994 S10 is like 1200 or something crappy. So I thought that was a good deal. I just had to provide reciepts and stuff to prove i have more than 11,500 into the truck.

Re: Insurance

i just have liability on my truck. $30 a month. if i wreck it i can fix it. If i get hit, it already books high enough to make out well, then i would buy it back and part it out.

Same thing I was thinking! (might have been a little different)

I am taking a diversity class right now and I think it is ridiculous how much people use the word gay in some form or another to describe things that they don't like, things that are different, ect.. I sometimes wonder if people think about how they are making others feel when they make statements like that. I have several gay friends and have seen first hand the things they have to put up with on a daily basis. I personally have never heard one derogatory hetero or straight remark from any of my friends... so why spew it about them?

Flame on suckers!!

Oh yeah, Jnoehl - Let me know how progressive rates you compared to others... that's who I have now and they were by far lower than anyother place I went.

Re: Insurance

Im not LSx swapped. But I do have a fair amount of cash stuffed in my truck. I have full coverage on it, it is insured as a "recreational vehicle" though, and My insurance company knows about, and will covor my mods, should something happen. It really didnt raise the cost much, less than $10 a month. However, mine is registered and insured as "recreational" Less than 5k miles a year. Wich is pretty much the way its driven now... Last year she only saw 3800 miles of service

Re: Insurance

www.hagerty.com

Its where mine is insured as an "exotic". They only do speacialty insurance, my normal insurance place gave me the run around. This is what all the Barrett-Jackson type cars use.

Is it relatively reasonable? How does it compare in price to what you were paying for standard insurance?

Re: Insurance

I asked my insurance agent about doing my swap and how it would affect my insurance premium or if changes neded to be made to the policy. He said no changes needed to be made to the policy. Just make sure I keep all receipts if I want to get paid for the mods I've made. Eitherwise I would only get paid for the market value of the truck in its stock form. I have State Farm

Re: Insurance

I pay $200 every six months for my daily driver with liability and comp. I pay $80 more every six months for my v8'd s10 for the same coverage. I have no violations. I just got a quote from that Hagerty joint and it was $645 a year for just the v8 s10. My current insurance company knows nothing about the swap so I guess i'll risk it

It's a big risk. You are basically committing fraud because your insurance company thinks it has a stock engine. If you have an injury or fatality accident and your insurance company looks at your truck, will you still have coverage?

Can you afford to lose everything?

Keep that in mind.

To me....It's worth the extra premium.

Most of the time when you tell them about what you have done to the vehicle they have no clue what your talking about. I doubt the lady on the phone would know what a n20 kit is. I have gieco and I purchased my insurance online. I don't know if there would be an insurance option for my truck on their website.

Re: Insurance

To be safe, it might be prudent to at least try to get a quote from a company and provide full disclosure. This way you would know for sure.

If you are comfortable with it, I'm not your judge.

THe lady on the phone might not know about nitrous but the insurance companies do for sure. You get into an accident and hurt yourself or someone else they will disclaim faster than you will know, and guess whos on the hook then????.

Hagerty will not insure any vehicle with nitrous.

Re: Insurance

As far as Hagerty Insurance, how do you get it insured when you plan on driving it daily? Just curious since I plan on driving mine to work every day.

Found this from their website.

Hagerty does not offer an insurance product for:
  • Inexpensive home-built kits that do not replicate a classic vehicle
  • Replicas of the 1963-67 Shelby Cobra Roadster
  • Any vehicles used for camping, off-road or utility-type driving
  • Pro-street vehicles modified exclusively with racing features such as roll cages, wheelie caster, nitrous systems, parachutes, etc. (Consideration may be given to show-use only vehicles)
  • Regular-use vehicles driven on a daily basis
  • Vehicles used primarily for commercial use
  • Motorcycles with performance modifications
  • Any vehicle modified with nitrous, nitro-methane or blown alcohol systems are ineligible.
  • Dune Buggies
