long overdue update

so after fighting with my headers for a while I finally got them to fit with some cutting, grinding, welding, and a new steering shaft. they look great, but they didn't fit well on mine. the new bolt in mounts are supposed to help that, i have been talking to brp again to get this worked out.

I finally got my rear end finished, when I got it narrowed the shop welded an end on crooked, they fixed it for no cost though. I welded on the spring pads, cleaned and painted it to match the engine, got new e-brake shoes, ceramic pads, and new rotors. now Mia has 4 wheel disks, 3.73s with a posi, and traction bars.

I talked to jared and he said the wiring should be here sometime next week, and I have a 3 day weekend this week so I should be ready to put the wiring in when I get it.

she still has alot left but she's starting to come togather pretty well. I really hope to have her running mid august before school starts, but we'll see how that goes.

Re: I'm calling her Mia

So you had to cut a notch in the frame to get the passenger side to fit and a totally new steering shaft to get the driver's side to fit? WTF?? They say they fit perfectly. And that shaft looks like you still has the rag joint....

Re: I'm calling her Mia

yup they are the mids. wish I would have gone with jareds setup but I didn't have the cash at the time. the new mounts are supposed to help but who knows. they are looking into redoing them.

where does it look like I have a rag joint? is there one in the dash?

I was thinking it was right where the pic cuts off... but looked again and realized that's the box with the splined shaft coming out of it...And yeah it would be nice to have Jareds but he's not making them anymore ...So I'm S.O.L on that one...

once I got my welder it really didn't take much work. some grinding and welding and a few steering shaft parts from speedway.

keep in mind I have the luck of someone who broke a mirror when they were walking under a ladder while a black cat ran in front of them.

Re: I'm calling her Mia

I spent half of yesterday and most of my free time today helping my buddy put long tube headers and off road Y pipe on his 2000 trans am, so I didn't get to work on my truck till 6:30.
well I got half done putting my gas tank in today and then I ran out of welding wire. at 8:30 at night on sunday.... so I sanded and painted my inner fenders to match the firewall and called it a night. I still have to move all my furniture out of my house tonight so that the carpet can get installed tomorrow morning.
I have tomorrow off so I'll get more wire and get all this stuff finished. tomorrow i'm picking up a battery and a relocator kit and tossing my battery in my bed, or under it if I can find some space.

Re: I'm calling her Mia

Did you just purchase your own bolts to connect the flanges for the collectors on the mid-lengths? I got mine in today and the kit has bolts to connect the headers to the heads but none for the flanges...Was yours like this? Oh and I plan on buying some different gaskets than the ones the kit came with...they look flimsy..Some stainless ones would be nice..One more thing have your header bolts rusted? If they did I'll just buy some split-lock stainless ones...Thanks man...

they havent rusted but i'm in arizona, there isnt a spot of rust on my entire truck. use the ones that came with it they will seal better then the steel stock style. I think it came with the hardware for the flange, though it came with the wrong end. they were supposed to be a prebent 3in pipe, mine has a 2.5 in straight short peice. I called brp about it and they are trying to get stuff worked out. I guess they have been having alot of trouble with headman on the s10 stuff.

Re: I'm calling her Mia

well I picked up more wire and got the last of my tank mounts finished up, cut the frame for the filler tube, got the rest of the battery relocating stuff, and relocated the charcoal canister. also cleaned, primed, and painted the inner fenders to match the firewall. before I put the front end together I will be painting everything in the engine bay to match the firewall.

I also got news today that my wiring will be here on wednesday!

and on to the pics, the tank sits nice and high but still clears the bed without cutting any of the supports.

more updates to come this weekend!

Help me out here AM. This looks like you're using truck accessories with an LS1 pump and LS6 intake? Am I correct?

its a engine enamel by duplicolror called cast coat iron. make sure you use a black primer or it will come our with a greenish tint.

its actually a truck water pump from an 07 and up silverado(the 06 and under wont fit with the car style intake). though you can use an ls1 pump if you swap the pulley out for the one off a truck water pump, the ls1 pump fits better, but if you have the new style truck intake it will work.

Re: I'm calling her Mia

Murphy is an asshole!

so I took a few days off work this weekend to get my truck in running or close to running condition. but then...
-a pipe broke in my house and is leaking on the carpet I had installed 10days ago.
-my wife brought home a dog that reaked havoc throughout my house and yard.
-my mom got addmitted to the hospital and needs surgery.
-some of the part I needed wont be here when they should have been(again)
-my ac is freezing up and needs to be serviced

all of this took place in the last few days, out of a 4 day weekend I might have 2 to work on my truck if i'm really lucky..
:end rant:

Re: I'm calling her Mia

long overdue update

well school started and she isn't running yet. so close but so far

Hooked up the walbro into my stock sending unit, I ran the fuel lines to the filter, still need to run the last line to the engine.

and now to announce change number 793

I got another new intake! My buddy had an issue with it and was pressed for time so I swapped him my ls6 intake for this baby. I dont have any pictures of it when I first got it, the first thing I did was clean it up and paint it the same color as the last 2 I had.

then instead of getting the 85mm tb I ported the intake out to a 90mm and picked up a bluemaxxx 90mm. there are more wet kit options and it should be worth a few ponies.

more to come soon, hopefully...

Re: I'm calling her Mia

Well I'm not going to update you guys with everything because my camera died, but I have still have some good stuff for you guys.

I had to pull the heads back off to lap the valves in. that sucked...

but I got the valves all sealed up. got the heads back on, got the headers back on, dipsticks in, intake and throttle body on, rails and injectors in. wiring done, and most of the front end done with.

my coils didn't fit so I took a grinder and a welder to the brackets and they fit great now. these will fit over the injectors between the rails and the valve covers. i'll be cleaning them up tomorrow before they are put on.

also cleaned up and brushed my abs unit.

like I said I have some more, i'll update more when I get some time between work and school. this thing would be done if it were not for school...

thanks for the compliments guys.

Quote:

I brushed my own abs cover, along with the valve covers, timing cover, and a few other brackets. i'll be giving the computer the same treatment. some sandpaper, a roloc disc and a scotchbright pad did the trick. clear it when your done to avoid having to clean it every 20 minutes.

Quote:

coil brackets are just getting moved up 2.75 inches so that they dont cover the valve covers, pics coming soon.

yup. those are supposed to be there so i'm okay with not hiding them.

I was thinking about having the coils on the outside of the valve covers on the side of the engine but figured daily driving would cook them after a while.
