Re: I'm calling her Mia
shaved it with sanding discs and then buffing disks, then brushed it with scratch pads. I used a small high speed rotory tool like a dremel but its an air tool. a friend of mine let me use his stuff so I don't know all the details

Re: I'm calling her Mia
thanks, the mounts are huge, so headers are going to be a pain to fit in, plus they are very high. they are nice poly bushings so when my buddy gets back next week i'll just have him help me modify them to work. the notch is alright but again just needs some modification, i think i'm going to just run a square tube in place of the cross member, but i'm not sure on that yet.

Re: I'm calling her Mia
Update!
so the headers are finally getting coated and will be here in a few weeks. Later then I wanted but I think it was worth it. I ordered the long tubes but i'll post a pic of the Mids in case anyone else is interested. ![]() ![]() ![]() A place called brp hotrods is making them, pm me if you want details and contact info. they will be available in 2 weeks and will be coated. they also made 2in primaries for anyone making a drag only truck. they were designed on the old body style but i will be testing them on mine to see how they fit on the new body style s-10. oh and they fit with the stock ac system. the lt's are equal length and both sets are 1 3/4. on to my other small updates, I notched for ac and tore her down a little farther, I'm done with the valve covers except for painting the stripes to match the engine block. I ground off the old engine mounts, the guy put them on very well, too bad they aren't what I needed. I''ll be plating in the notch, fixing the oil pan notch, fixing my ac box and hopefully painting the firewall this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I still need to clear them and the rest of the covers, but I am happy with the way they came out. i'm ordering my gaskets head bolts and everything else I need to finish putting the engine togather, if anyone has a hookup at a tucson az dealer shoot me a pm. if not i'll be waiting a week till everything is shipped to me. It looks like the longtubes might have a primary that goes outside the frame... (like the old sbc longtubes) Am I right?

Re: I'm calling her Mia
okay guys, so I cleaned out the garage today and got a few parts in.
hardware ![]() fuddle 3000 stall ![]() also did the stripes on the valve covers, I think it turned out really good. ![]() I tried to clear the valley cover and timing cover but they are coming out with really bad texture/orange peel. anyone know how to get rattle-can high temp clear to come out smoothish? and lastly I started shaving my intake. it will be painted to match the block and I will be adding an aluminum strip over the top next week to match my covers. ![]() my gaskets, pushrods, and valve seals are all on there way, so now i'm waiting on an ls2 oil pan and like everyone else headers to start real progress. |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
My house currently has 7 people in it because of a friend of the family is getting married, there for Greg now has his out of town family at his house. needless to say progress is slow. but onto my small update.
installed my valley cover, ls2 timing chain, ported oil pump, timing cover, new front and rear main seals, and got in my head gaskets, exhaust, and intake gaskets. intake in primer with lots of holes ![]() intake all done. ![]() and a little teaser ![]() I should have used darker primer on the intake so that the final color would have been closer to the block. But when I can spend the money i'll be getting edelbrocks new setup, or a fast so it's not a big enough deal for me to repaint. The heads are my old ones just sitting on there for mock-up, my heads are at the machine shop getting surfaced and jet washed. after they get back the long block will get assembled. other then that i'm just getting loose ends taken care of. i'm ordering the last of my parts on sunday and monday. next weekend is a 3 day for me and my buddies that are working on Mia. As long as the sky refrains from falling progress will be made. Greg Last edited by AmericanMuscle : 12-06-2008 at 02:55 AM. |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
nate and kampz, yes it is aluminum on the top of the intake, I cut out the vacuum ports on the top and put it on the side(look at the rear port in the pick where its primer). I had to seal them up so I grabbed a small paice of scrap aluminum from work and started cutting and bending it to fit. I roughed up the manifold and the underside of the aluminum and jb-welded it on, then filled any holes that were left with gasket maker. then brusked the aluminum, taped it and painted the manifold.
Nate- I think i'm going to run the 3.5 single, I'll talk to the exhaust shop first, but i've already found a cutout, cat and muffler. The duals will be alot more without a performance advantage. s10 den- They do have a primary outside the framerail, those were the mockup, the headers are slipjoint. denali-on-26's is going to run the lt's. I'm still talking with brp about getting more fitment pics, but i'll probably be running the mids. 1 5/8th primary mids should be fine for my build, plus they are $450 coated. if the t'l dont have issues with running zq8 sized rims and tires in the front then i'll still go with those. 2001xblazer- I'm in NW tucson, close to the Oro Valley area |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
small update
got my heads back from being milled, had .025 taken off wich ended up giving me a little over a 61 cc chamber. which means I will be running at just under 10.6:1 compression. got them assembled with my dual springs, and got them put on the engine. after all that I found out my pushrods that I just got last week were too long. so I called up texasspeed and had a new set 2 days later(I've only had good experiances with them). then I installed my pushrods and roller rockers, one od my rocker bolts got in a fight with my heads and the bolt won. after I pulled out the bolt with the threads from the head I went and found some helicoils and a tap and got that fixed. Then cut all my rocker arms down that were sticking into my intake ports. ![]() -anyone need a set of 7.4 hardened pushrods? |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
no i'm still waiting on everything , headers, trans cooler, cluster, leafs, i'm currently stripping down my frame and wheel wells to paint them. everything will probably get here when I pick up my rear end with my luck. then I will have everything with not enough time to do it. I guess its my own fault for ordering everything right before Christmas.![]() I'm just hoping I get at least a few things by this weekend, i'll have 3 or 4 friends to help me out, and 4 days to do stuff. But that only does any good if I have something for them to help with.... ![]() ![]() |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
small update,
got my guage cluster in from zx9rgreen and installed it. took me longer to figure out which one to install then it did to put it in. thanks bro ![]() got my rear all stripped down, taking it to get narrowed after I finish this post. ![]() got my posi out and torn down, and installed the ford motor sports carbon clutch kit. if you do this do not handle the friction modifier without gloves, it is the worst smelling stuff I have EVER used and it soaks into your hands. seriously its still making my feel sick. ![]() ![]() other then that i've just been doing detail work, cleaning stripping and painting stuff. hopefully I'll have some real progress soon. should be starting on wiring this weekend also I have another cluster with a 7k tach, if you can figure out what year it goes on please let me know. i'm sure someone on here could use it, below is the tag and numbers on it. ![]() |

Re: I'm calling her Mia
I hear you on the ford friction modifier. I thought the gear lube smelled bad then I opened up that little 4oz bottle of modifier and my god it was vile!
Your gonna love the carbon clutches. Makes the rear so tight. Turning sharply on loose gravel or any loose surface makes you think its a locker with the inside wheel scrubbing. Last edited by philntx : 01-09-2009 at 01:37 PM. |
