ideas on winter upgrades
Hey guys! Im looking for a big upgrade to do this winter.... ive been tossing around a few ideas...
1. A full top end kit, like the trick flow 515 hp package, or slp 2. custom turbo setup, but im so unfamiliar with turbos 3. procharger, but i don't wanna spend 5k on a kit, when ur paying for r & d and it isnt gonna fit i know this question gets thrown around a lot, but i really wanna do it, and im unsure of what will be the most cost-effective/worth while.... id like to cap the budget at 5k |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
I say go for the top end kit man. You can worry about a turbo later down the road.

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
agree with zx9green...heads, cam, fast intake and tb, LT, u/d pulley, also u'll need a stall to match the cam if you have an a4 tranny...that will get u the 11s your looking for and will keep the streetability...i'm shooting for the same goal...i have the cam, just need the heads, fast setup, LT and pulley...but the pulley and heads will be coming next summer...Good Luck...

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Well you are going to need some traction aid also. My ET's worsened after my FAST intake install even though my trap speeds increased 3~4mph. The reason is no traction. So in my opinion, planting the power you have is more important than loads of power that you cant use.

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Do a quick search on West Coast Cylinder Heads. Talk to Richard. He's a master machinist and prices for his stage II heads are very reasonable.

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
how necessary are the lt's? believe me, i get the point of it and all, but im wondering if i can get away with shorties and a good exhaust system for now.... this is gonna be enough $$.... id rather not dump another 1,000+ into re-doing the exhaust, and long tubes.... and zx9rgreen, i dont know what more traction items i can get with a 3 link in the rear.... unless you mean tire, cuz thats a given

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Yea I was meaning tires....I would recommend something like ET streets since your an M6. I havent been able to get Drag Radials to work for me. I'm on the shorties with my combo that makes good power and carrys pretty good IMO. |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
ok guys.... i spoke with someone from vengeance racing, and they suggested a very appealing setup. I gotta thank Black X, and Philintx, because they suggested this to me months ago.... Ok, here's what im going with...
Trick Flow 220cc heads VRX4 cam Comp Pro Magnum RR's FAST 92mm intake Billet 92 mm Throttle body 28 lb injectors (stock, but mine are 26's) all related gaskets, crank bolt, etc. etc with any luck, that should add up to my 11 second pass that i want.... and they gave me what sounds like a sick deal, @ $3600 shipped |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Thats a good price and sounds like a nice setup. Dont you have to run aftermarket rocker arms with those heads? I dont see that on your list and head bolts are torque to yeild so you need those too. Also is that fast going to be ported?
To answer your question in the earlier post....I am running MT ET Street Radials ....255.50.16 I'm going to swap to the ET Streets Last edited by zx9rgreen : 09-25-2009 at 10:27 PM. |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
I still say sell the ls1 and use that money plus the 5k and purchase a bigger setup exactly how you want it. Plus it we be brand new and last longer. But either way it will be nice.

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
When I went to the dyno day a few weeks ago, a guy had a GTO that was done by Vengance. Same heads, intake, and a little larger cam, LTs in a stalled auto and he put down 455rwhp but less trq than me. So with a a M6 you should have a very nice setup. I'll be awaiting 1/4 traps to compare with my budget build. |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
All that horsepower will be fun and it will get you some high traps. You might still be disapointed in the et though. Im not sure you can get a good enough 60' on your rear set up. Those air springs have alot different spring rate than leaves or coils. Maybe save a couple hundred for some double adj rear shocks??? Do you have the ability to adjust your pinion angle with the old style 3 link?

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Mainly, because of the fact that this motor gives me no issues whatsoever.... and its been in my truck for 6 months.... im not getting a new motor every year.... id be plenty happy with 450ish to the wheels reliably, so i see no need to buy another engine. it makes close to no sense to me |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
I'm sure your job will be easier making 450 to the wheels with the LS1 than the 6.0 I/We recommend . Good Luck..Last edited by The Stunningman : 09-27-2009 at 12:56 AM. |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
Id say just build the motor and ditch the S/C or T/C'd setups. They played out, lol.
Seriously though, why dont you bring that truck down this way so i can see it in person before you tear into it? |

Re: ideas on winter upgrades
We will all probaby end up as BlackX has...LOL getting faster and more power every year. His truck has progressed into a monster over the many years I have been on here. (Also take note that Phil and Sweet are both in the quest for more power as well) You will be satisfied for a little while and then the power bug will bite you in the arse again. I am planning to go turbo possibly in the next year or two if I don't get a C5/C6 first. I am where I wanted to be with my truck with the goals I set in place less than a year ago. But, I have the spray to hook back up to satisfy that need for more power but then that will get boring and then......... |
