How about an LS7 uder my hood?

You think it's possible to put an LS7 in an s-10?

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

I've seen a 454 and a 502 stuffed into an S-10. Anything is possible. Might try the V8 Discussion area for better results.

Yup, it can be done. All that matters is the size of your wallet.

Yeah if you have almost 14G's for a crate motor or get one out of a wrecked corvette.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

The ls7 is the same size as any ls1, ls2, ls6, so yes, it would be a similar swap to those engines.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

the ls7 is bigger than ls1 and ls2 its a 427. its not as big as a 427 big block but its bigger and it would be very tight but doable

No, it is just a bored and stroked ls1/2/6. Same as the 4.8/5.3/5.7/6.0/6.2 are all the same externaly. Or the gen 1 motors, 265, 305, 327, 350, 383, 400, all the same externaly. The cylinder walls are paper thin. This is a different motor than the old 427's.
ls2:

ls7:

They even use the same front end accessories. I bet you could even swap the truck front end stuff on there. Don't forget about the dry sump oiling stuff.

If the LS2 is the same size as the LS7 and the LS1 is the same size as the LS2, then the external dimensions of the LS1=those of the LS7.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

The ls1 and ls2 are very similar. They moved a couple of things around on the motors, map sensor i think, and a higher resolution crank/cam pos sensors. They are the same size externaly as well.

The only lsx engine that is different is the ls4 in the front wheel drive grand prix gxp/impalla ss. It is shorter by i think 10mm on the back, and a few more on the front. The intake manifold is also installed backwards.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

Geezz How many times can this be explained and re-explained, its getting old. All LSx series motors are the same externally dimention wise. An LS1 can be swapped into an s series...Then obviously an LS2,LS6,LS7, LM5, LQ9 blah blah blah will work. If you have the money then fine do it. However, it would be way way cheaper to drop in a built turbo LS1 (or better yet LQ9!) than to drop a crate bone stock LS7 in

LS7 is a dry sump oiling system make way for lines and a resavoir with your swap and look to spend some money on an LS7 $12,000-$14,000 good luck

wouldn't you have issues with the steering shaft being too long? for an LS1 swap that is...

Ehh, Its not worth it. You are better off building an LS2 at half the price. Or like 1fast 4x4 said, an Lq9 from a caddy.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

if you have the money it can be done, im sure its a hell of a lot easier than a big block swap.
but yes it is dry sump oiling, another idea would be to find another block like an ls1 and bore it and stoke it to match that of a ls7, and also find the cam dimensions.
but as far is it being possible anything is possible with enough time and money

oh yeah heres the LS7 bore/stroke
427 = bore - 4.125" x stroke - 4.00" (2006 Gen.IV, LS7 SBC, titanium rods)
just for reference heres some other gm l series specs
345 = bore - 3.893" x stroke - 3.622" ('97-later, Gen.III, "LS1", 6.098" rod)
364 = bore - 4.000" x stroke - 3.622" ('99-later, Gen.III, "LS2", "LQ4" 6.0 Liter Vortec, 6.098" rod)
376 = bore - 4.065" x stroke - 3.622" (2007-later, Gen. IV, "L92", Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon)

for more info go here http://www.mortec.com/borstrok.htm
it has most gm v8 bore and stokes

What does that have anything to do with this? The catera had a 200hp 3.0L v6, not sure why you would even go to the trouble?

I wouldnt go through the trouble, maybe the guy who mentioned cadilac would, its really the only feasable caddy engine considering the length of the s-series steering shaft, another caddy motor just wouldnt fit, at least through all the v8 swaps I have seen my friends try

you can do that but you have to sleeve the block and you really pinch off the water jackets, the
LS7 has humps in the side of the block for extra clearance from the sleeves

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

How about one of GM's new LSX blocks. Dont have pricing yet but they say it can handle up to 2,500hp and will be cheaper then people think. Comes out in March. GM and Warren Johnson got together

I can ge the LS7 crate motor for just over 12k, expensive but would be nice to say you have a LS7 in a S10. Cam and program have a nice 600hp NA

Be cheap and get an lq9 block and put $8000 in parts on it and be on par or better than an ls7 easily.

Re: How about an LS7 uder my hood?

The price is just too much at this time. Everything will have to be upgraded not just the motor. I don't think you could finish it less than 18-20k. You'd have to install roll cage for the drag strip cause it would be a 10-11sec truck . Someone asked if the t56 can fit to the ls7 and yes one can, but isn't the new vette trans for the ls7 a 6spd auto anyways just get that.

That LSX is gonna be insane, if you bore and stroke it to its max its 510 cubic inches

No, the z06 runs the t56 manual only. The rest of the vettes run either the t56, or the new 6l80E.

I like the idea of a 408 with the new kenny bell twin screw in the valley.

I say put a Honeywell LT-101 turbine engine in an S10 or a Viper motor ( )
