Can I swap my 2.2 non flex fuel pump for a 2.2 fuel fuel pump? Will it have the same plugs and everything? I saw BlackX used the flex fuel pump and I wasnt sure if I could just put one of those in my tank...
The plug may be different. They swapped the square 4 pin to a upgraded flat 4 pin 280 connector. Some may still have the square 4 pin though. They upgraded ones usually come with the new pigtail though so no worries. And yes it should drop right in technically. Only hiccup may be the top hat which may have the locating tab clocked differently.
The fuel line sizes are flipped on a flex fuel pump. The feed is smaller and return is larger. Also a flex fuel pump is clocked differently in the tank so the lines are different than a non flex fuel setup. As far as the electronics, it's a plug and play deal but you will need either flex fuel lines or custom lines coming off that pump going to the filter area.
I would suspect that since the flex fuel uses a smaller line that you might also have to change the lines to a non flex fuel system to feed 3x the motor. Put in a 255lph pump while you're in there to be sure.
Honestly at this point, I wouldn't buy a 255 any longer when you can get a 340 for the same $. It won't flow too much to put heat in the fuel, but will give more cushion for higher HP. But as said in this case, the 2.2 flex pump is well worth keeping!
That's good to know. I bought a plug and play harness from current preformance. Would I actually have to change anything in my fuel system for it to drive.
Nothing wiring wise will need to be changed. It's all plug and play. The 2.2 flex pump I purchased wasa drop in deal. The clocking tab sending unit hat for the 2.2 flex was the same as my 4.3 one. The clocking tab may be different for you depending on plastic tank/metal tank year etc. A lot of the 2.2 flex pumps sold upgraded to the flat 4 pin GT280 connector vs the square 4 pin GT150 connector. This is a simple fix. Just use the supplied GT280 pigtail when you buy the 2.2 flex pump and split into your gt150 body harness connector at the tank.
That depends on the year of the truck and if your truck is a flex fuel engine or not. The RPO codes in the glove box will tell you but also the filter with built in regulator is another way to tell.
I finally found out I do indeed have a flex fuel. I tried figuring it out through the rpo codes but couldnt find out how. But there was a thread on here saying if the 8th digit of your vin is a 5 it would identify it is a flex fuel.
