Exhaust?
What has everyone done for exhaust?
My original plan was just going to be a temp exhaust until I turbo'd it, but life keeps getting in the way and I don't know if I will actually turbo it or not (might be a couple years down the road) Sanderson Headers, 2.5" custom Y-Pipe into a flowmaster merge pipe, 3" elec cutout, and then single 3" back and dumped before the rear axle. Plan was to be able to leave the rear part of the exhaust (just swap muffler) and just run the downpipe to the cutout when I turbo'd it. I have searched and searched, but I keep getting dif answers about HP ratings. Can I get 400rwhp out of single 3" exhaust?? Most seem to blame power loss on crappy Y pipes with bad merges. OR, should I go 2.5" collectors from the sandersons, right to dual 3" exhaust, with dual Cut Outs?? Still dumping right before the rear axle. Pretty much the same as zx9rgreen's new exhaust but with cutouts (I say you stole my idea )Opinions?? |

Re: Exhaust?
I was pushing 420 rwhp in my old tbss through a single 3", but yes crappy y's and bad merges will affect your HP

Re: Exhaust?
There is a point where exhaust pipe size will affect your power output, not saying it wouldnt still make lots of power but it could make more with larger tubing. I am running true 2.5" which from my understanding is plenty exhaust flow to support a lot more power than I make. That would almost be the equivalint to a single Y'd 5" exhaust. Re: Exhaust?
What size exhaust tubing should I use for my street application?
The size of tubing used in an exhaust system is a critical item to consider. Tubing diameter will affect the sound level and performance characteristics of the muffler, but keep in mind that bigger is not always better. Using tubing that is too large can actually hinder exhaust scavenging by slowing the velocity of exhaust pulses in the tubing. As a rule, most mild street applications (dual exhaust) use 2.00” through 2.25” tubing, and modified street applications will generally use 2.25” or 2.50” tubing. Very rarely will 3.00” tubing be used for street applications. In general, the following guidelines should be applied for street applications. SizeHorsepower 2” tubing up to 160 hp per pipe 2.25” tubing up to 160 hp per pipe 2.5” tubing up to 250 hp per pipe 3” tubing up to 300 hp per pipe this is from http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/faq.html you can run more, but in order to be efficiant this is about what you should follow. |

Re: Exhaust?
i have true dual 3" but have not got it tuned yet to see the power but i can tell you this... with 1 7/8 LT's and dual maggy mufflers and it coming out before the rear tires it sounds f'n awsome.... then i hit the switch to open the dual 3" electric cut-outs and its even better...lol

Re: Exhaust?
proud of you ls1s10onair most people never comprahend that. took me a lil while to first caprture when i joined the fire department. but i eventulaly reilized what was going on. as for me i had a small block with dual 2" and a 150 shot of juice i had no where near enough pipe it was killing my engine. on my lsx im going with 2.5 so that it will be there when more power adders come along.

Re: Exhaust?
AmericanMuscle - We already went over that
![]() 2.5" pipe = 4.906 square inches x 2 = 9.8125 square inches for dual 2.5" 3.50" single = 9.61625 square inches 3.53" single = dual 2.5" Dual 3" = 4.25" Single By flowmaster's rule, a single 3" is only good for 300HP, and I am pretty sure there are a lot of ls1 people still running headers, ory, and a single 3" with a LOT more hp then 300. |

Re: Exhaust?
I'm running LT's into a 3.5 in/out Magnaflow, over the axle and into a 3.5 in dual 2.5 out spintech.
Sounds great. On the dyno with open headers, I gained 7 HP. The system is pretty efficient. |
