Ando and fams LS1 project

been doing a bunch of research lately, getting ready to dive head first into this project. Its my brothers, mine and my dads project. 3x people = 3x more money and helping hands lol. the truck is a 98 v6 xcab 3rd door. with a manual trans. a/c blows cold and trucks runs good. Paid $1500 for it. with the camper shell lol
LS1 came from a 2003 50th anniversy corvette with 40,000 miles. really clean motor.

the truck will be built for street but something we can take to the strip and race. the outside is gonna stay mostly stock so its gonna be a sleeper

Plans are
stock ls1 for now
Built 4l60e
Built 12 bolt rear
billet specialties new street light wheels

and now with the pictures!

it would be sweet for the ls1 to go into my bagged truck but then again we want something reliably fast

It is probably gonna be a little while before we get started, becuase my dads 39 chevy coupe is currently taking up space in the shop. We still need to figure out what we are gonna do for a wiring harness. other than that i think we are kinda set.

Re: Ando and fams LS1 project

That's one clean engine and one clean truck (minus the bed gash and front bumper). Have you talked to Jared about a harness?

Re: Ando and fams LS1 project

There is good value to this fabricated harness! Time, frustration, hangovers.

Unless you've done them before and are familiar with things like serial data, reference voltage, clean soldered connections, etc, I'd defer to a professional.

Re: Ando and fams LS1 project

I was going to go with the Mickey Thompsons but they are very expensive. Especially for the rear.

Re: Ando and fams LS1 project

the 4l60e will be built to hold 600 atleast, and thanks brandt i was referred to that shop last night as a matter of fact.

the main reason for the auto is so everyone can drive it and the truck will be a bracket truck.

A 4L60 can be built to hold 500+ HP, but you'll have to really like the "bang" shifts under WOT. They will be "firm".

A 4L80 would be a much better choice even though it weighs more and eats a little more HP. Parrish was running a, basically stock, 4L80E in his single turbo 4WD truck making around 500 HP

looks like a fun project. you got to leave the shell on it haha. no one would suspect a grandpa looking truck to have an ls1 haha.

we've really looked into the 2 trans quite a bit and i think the 60 is the way to go for us.

here is a 4l60e that will "hold" 800hp and has a 2 year warranty

Re: Ando and fams LS1 project

Another reason I cant go with the Billet Specialties Street Line wheels. They only offer them in 15". 17" are in the works but no ETA. I was looking at like 17" front and 20" rear. But agin the Mickey Thompson Wheels are rediculous. For a 20" by say 16" width for the rear would be about $1,500 each. And skinny 18" front wheels are about $700 each. $4,400 without tires lol I may have to re-think that
