All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

Have an idea for those of you on the east coast. I need a set of headers for my truck conversion as I'm sure alot of you would like to have. The Sanderson headers just won't work for me or anybody else that is looking to make real power with the LS1. You really need a set of 1 3/4" long tubes on a heads and cam motor to really open it up. If we get a few of us together maybe we can convince Kooks or Stainless Works (real good companies on the eastern side of the country) to get a few of us in and give us a discount on a set of headers. I have talked to these guys and they want about $2k because they want to treat it like a 1 off thing because they don't think the LS1/s10 swap is a worthwhile thing to put headers out for. Please get back to me if you want this to happen. I will have to do this eithor way but if we can get 2-3 of us to go in and have a set of headers fabricated on a few different trucks with a few different sets of mounts then I think they will be more receptive on the idea to see what does and doesn't work. Thanks a bunch guys.

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

I was planning on making my own, but I am not above buying some to save time if a good set were available. So, count me very interested. I see this subject often on the various S-10 boards and the truth is, it's either Sanderson (good, but not even close to optimal for the LS1), stock manifolds, or make your own. This could be a good opportunity for a aggressive, performance oriented shop to tap a market that needs served. My .02

Hey 84xcabTPI, I'm gonna link this to both Kooks and Stainless works. If you don't mind, we need to start corresponding on this alittle to make it work via email or whatever. How far along is your swap or are you done with it? I'm sure they would want a down payment on the work or whatever. Anyways, thanks a bunch. Anybody else that is interested let me know please. Thanks guys.

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

Has anyone concidered that they would need a vehicle there to build the headers on?
I don't think they can just make a set of headers on the side of an engine on a stand and expect them to bolt right in to an S-10 without a problem.
My guess is figure about 2K for the first set period. Then about 650 or so for the rest.
If 5 of you go in together, they might split it all 5 ways, which is still $920 piece.

Well no sh!t Jared See why I mentioned "EAST COAST" at the top LOL. I was hoping to get a few trucks in that particular shop so they could do the headers "on the truck". Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Anyways just giving you a hard time man about the obvious. Anyways, anybody else interested?

Here is the current, and future, state of the "prototype" headers from Lee's High Tech.
Stopped by and took a couple of pics.

Something to think about, but for now the manifolds work just fine.

I should be able to start working on it probably next week when i get my mounts . Lee shipped them today . For my first experiance with him it wasn't what i expected . I heard horror storys over here about him but in my experience he seems like a nice guy . Probably because he went to Aruba 2 times and he likes the Arubian peoples . I will keep putting more and more pics of the project .

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

Those must have been the mounts I saw sitting on the front of the Monte Carlo yesterday.
He says he shipped them? I bet if I go by his shop today, they are still sitting there.

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

So are they still there. I wish this guy would get his shit together. I would like to buy mounts and headers from him too. I will be having my harness made buy you Jared. Why can't he be more like you. I think that he needs someone to tell him what to do. I would be rad if you were his boss. Then stuff would happen.

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

I'm not sure if they are still there or not, I called John and asked if he could look, but he said he was busy. I mentioned that people are beginning to talk about Lee again, and I think that might make him send them out if he hasn't yet.
I don't want to be his boss, I'd fire his ass after one day. I think he might be getting some financial backing so maybe he can get his company together. I certainly hope so for his sake (and the person doing the financing).

Re: All LS1 swappers check in NOW!!!

Here are some pics of my headers. Long tubes are the only way to go. Keep in mind that unless you are all using the same motor mts and trans mt that the headers will not be interchangeable from truck to truck. Mine are 1 5/8 tubes that are 36 " long. Even with the smaller tubes I had to adjust the clearences Just to get them to fit. The left side has the steering going through them. Does everyone have AC? I do and this was a huge pain in the A fitting header around the AC box and then clearing everything else. Also different stages of lowering make a dif in how header fit. Just my .02 If you can go for it you wont be sorry, nothing like the power and sound of headers --- cam --- heads. If anybody is in the Milwaukee area I make custom headers and manderal ex at the shop where I work.

Amen to that man. I guess that is why we need several trucks to be prototypes like I was kinda mentioning so we can get it right the first time. Anyways, looking good man. I just got the motor in my truck yesterday but it has to come right back out again. I used an empty block for the mockup and had somebody else weld the frame. Guess they filled the hole in the crossmember more than I wanted. Oil pan is laying on the crossmember oh so slightly with the tranny in. Back to work I guess
