Air filter setups

Can you guys take some good pictures of your air induction setups and email them to me at philntx@aol.com?

I'll build a "sticky" showing how-to build an effective air filtration system for the many applications on the LS conversion site.

If you just put a "K&N" on the end of your throttle body, you don't need to send me that one.

If you did something custom, describe in a few words what you did and what parts you used.

Thanks,

Re: Air filter setups

No one has sent any pics to me at my email address.

I've got about 6 or 7 that I've managed to locate on the internet, but haven't done anything.

I was waiting for more user/builders to send theirs.

Re: Air filter setups

IntakeHoses.com setup

Two 90 degree 4" elbows
One short 4" tube to connect the eblows
CPerf MAF sensor - believe its a 85mm
One 4"x3.75" insert sleeve to connect elbow to MAF
One air filter with 4" inlet
5 t-bolt clamps for 4" rubber tubing

I am running a cowl hood, clearance shouldn't be an issue

Re: Air filter setups

that looks pretty good, but I think that will hit the hood. I did something similar it wouldnt work with my truck and I have a 2" body lift.

I will find out soon enough, I'm running 2.5" cowl induction hood. I'm hoping it will clear it. Did you go with a 4" setup like that on your swap?

Re: Air filter setups

Jonce it will probably hit the far side brace, I had to go under my Rad hose and I made sure I had the inner fender with the overflow tank and comp on and I put the battery back in when I fabbed mine today, it actually looks great, its 4"coupler that's reduces to 3.5" for the TB I started wit a 13" aluminum 90 which I cut pretty much down to the bend on it, than a 3.5"coupler than I had a 13" 45 that I also cut to fit the contour that I needed than one more 3.5" coupler to the maf(which is 3 5/8)it was a bitch to get on but nothin a little grease and heat never fixes, than the maf straight into a k&n with a 4" inlet you will be surprised by how tight it is where the filter of the right size needs to go, but that was just my setup, ill post some pics when I get to a comp

Re: Air filter setups

Remember, you can always use two smaller diameter pipes and two filters with a merge collector. SLP sold this one for the 94-97 LT1 Z28's.

Re: Air filter setups

I reworked my air filter setup a little bit. I changed the angles on the upper radiator hose, eliminated one 90 degree angle and added a 45 degree angle. It now sits lower than the previous setup.

Re: Air filter setups

Its hard to see in the pic, but its a stock air duct for a GTO flipped over and a K&N on the end of the MAF sensor. I'll see if I have better pics on the comp at home, but I'm going to the exhaust shop at lunch to talk about a different setup. I'll let you know what happens.

Still collecting pictures. Come on guys, send me what you are using

When I get around 20 of them, I'll put the info on a single post and submit for a sticky.

I think the GTO Shakers could be adapted to the S-trucks. I've never seen anything written about the turbo 6-liter, however, I do have a few more pictures of it.

Re: Air filter setups

would any of these setups present issues with the motor getting water? Obviously more of the ram air setups, not the CAIs. I know Camaros and TA's had them factory, so it works. Just curious how you dont suck water in when air is blowing directly from the hood to an air filter.

Re: Air filter setups

My original question is asking for owners to post pictures of how they built their air induction systems.

If it's just an elbow with a filter on it....I've got plenty of these.

I'm looking for fabricated either rubber tubing or aluminum.
Sealed air boxes
Fresh air systems with the filter routed out of the engine bay.

Somewhere, I have a picture of an old trans am fender vent that someone installed on an S10 fender. That's where he's getting air for his filter.

I'm sure there are more than what I've already shown that had some thought put into them.

I probably have several thousand pictures and files on 3 different hard drives.
I emailed the owner, I'm hoping he'll respond with more pictures

Here's another on of the 6 liter single turbo truck:
