Afm 5.3l To Non-afm??

I did a search on this but i can't come up with anything that satisfies me. I'm looking into an 08 aluminum 5.3l w/afm. Can i convert it to non-afm? I was thinking i could switch out the lifters, oil valley cover/oil distribution manifold from a non-afm engine. What about the cam also? i think this one has the vvt plug/solenoid in the end of the cam. Can i put a non-afm cam in the block and be done? do i have to change front engine cover? I was looking at a ls1 98-02 camaro ecm/harness to run it. I guess i would have to change crank triggers/reluctors also. Any and all input welcome and appreciated thanks.

Yes it can be done. Someone on here has done it, I think NYCBlazer, but not 100% on that. I think your about on the right track, swap lifter, I think front and maybe rear cover. If your going to run a Camaro ecm, I think you'll have to swap to a 24 tooth reluctor or run a converter.

If you're gonna be running a truck engine, why now run a truck harness and PCM? I'm assuming you're building your own harness?

05 and up blocks don't have the provision for the cam sensor at the back of the block like the blocks from 99-04. So you will have to keep your front cover. Im 99% sure about this

I was looking at this here
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRF-60508/

i saw in another thread that a 4l60e would work better than a 4l80e, I'm assuming that if i run the truck pcm i would have to run a 4l80e. ???? Also i dont want any part of an electronic throtle body. I like throtle cables.

Re: Afm 5.3l To Non-afm??

I work at a gm dealer. Does anyone know if i can peice together my own kit? Using my discount of course and peicing it together cheaper. If so what kinds of cars trucks do i tell the parts guy to look up? The kits say ls2, ls7 and so forth but they cant look up parts with out a car first. Would i be looking at corvette stuff and which years? Or does anyone have part numbers for the kits.
On the vvt delete kits I'm assuming the front cover on the engine im looking at has to be replaced with an ls1 style, i'm not sure if this aluminum 08 5.3l has a cam crank sensor hole or not.

Thanks everyone for the good information.

I would recommend ARP head bolts. 134-3610 best price on ebay. I paid $91.00

get on performancetrucks.net and search around and you will find info on the vvt and afm deletes
