Re: 9in rear end

According to the fine print...... It's just money......

Axle packages that will bolt into your vehicle, from Moser.
These Moser Engineering 9 in. housing and axle packages give you the freedom to choose components that you prefer, while still fitting your vehicle without any modifications. They include a steel housing, an axle shaft set with wheel studs, bearings, and a drain plug. You can order them with brakes, or to fit your OEM brakes or a specific brake kit. Available in a multitude of options, Moser Engineering 9 in. housing and axle packages are a perfect fit for your everyday driver or performance vehicle.

You'll still need the internal components....Gears/Posi. Add another $700-800, installation kit, etc

it'll hold it as long as theres no traction involved, i wouldnt even waste the money on the 10 bolt, i would go strait for a 12 bolt, 9", or dana60

Re: 9in rear end

My buddy has a Moser 12 bolt in his Monte Carlo SS, and its a great rear. I was just wondering why do most people go with a Ford 9 inch? Easier? Stronger?

The 9" was only a 28 spline axle with a drum brake and a traclok. For the price of an axle upgrade I got an 8.8 with 31 spline axles, discbrakes, traclok and the 8.8 has larger axle tubes. All for $300. I had over $1000 into my 9".

Re: 9in rear end

i would go with a ford 9 inch just cause its easier to change out parts, and if nascar uses them on chevy's also that could mean its more reliable than a chevy rear or easier to change.

Re: 9in rear end

alot of fbody's use 9" rears because the housing is supposedly stronger which with their torque arm they need. i've heard in many cases that the torque arm stresses the housing, 12 bolt may warp a little and it will have a horrible gear whine because of it, where as the 9" has never had that problem. plus the 9" will handle a bit more power because of its greater contact patch on the pinion, hence the 2-3% power loss over a 12 bolt. but if you really want to be bullet proof, go for a dana60, they'll support over 1200hp in factory setup.

Re: 9in rear end

its already right length for the s10, you will still require a third member shafts and rotors and brakes.
