Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

Thanks guys, your kind words and enthusiasm are what keeps me going especially when I run into problems like the latest one. After getting the fuel system working I naturally tried to start it but it only fires for a second then quits, looks like VATS, which was supposed to be deleted, I'm thinking when I hooked up the harness that was wired wrong the computer read an error and initiated vats...so the computer is on the way to FL so Jared can check it out...oh ya my laptop just started acting up so that is on the way back to HP...wtf...Mercury must be in retrograde, I think I'll stay away from electronics for a couple days... maybe go ride my mountain bike see if I can hurt myself

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

Make sure you have your ignition switch wired right. I know on some swaps, one wire needs to see constant power and if it only gets it during the initial start up.... that's why some of the swaps shut right off. VATS is either on or off from what I understand, which wouldn't allow the engine to fire at all.

Might be worth looking at, just in case.

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

It lives !!..... the computer had lost it's predator program and reverted back to stock, so it was the Vats disabling it...Jared straightened it out and I now have a running truck YAAHOO

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

yes the audio is quiet... it sounds kinda muffled and has a resonance like they allways do without tailpipes but I will be putting tailpipes on it then it will sound alot better, soon as I can drive it to the muffler shop

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

I think I've got almost all the bugs out of it ...It now runs a constant 195 degrees..the motor noise is gone now all you can hear are the injectors firing...the brakes are working properly...the check engine light is out...the only thing left now is no speedometer

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

This is a great project...you've done an awesome job. I recently picked up another 92 reg cab short bed and I'm planning on doing something similar only with a lsx 376. Still in the tear down stage, but will probably start a build thread after I send the frame off for powder coat. Once again...excellent workmanship!

hey glad you are enjoying the thread..haveing it running is a great feeling, especially after 3+ years, when the funds are hard to come by it slows things down so much its hard to keep going but the support from all the members here is what inspires so I'm glad I can return the favor..good luck

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

speaking of the funds getting tight... I'm running low and the washing machine just blew a gasket at home damn it...oh well I was hoping I could drive this before it snows but that would mean another couple hundred $$ I don't have for ins. and reg. and for what just to look at it sitting all winter.... I guess I'll just keep picking away at the little finishing details and come spring I'll have a turnkey truck...

details like securing any loose wires or lines and replace any rusty old bolts or screws that I might have missed.. (did I tell you http://www.totallystainless.com/ is coming out with stainless suspension hardware)...yahoo

I don't like how the roll pan was made. To clear the tailgate when it opens I had to drop it down a 1/2" now the bottom hangs below the fenders, this is not acceptable..... I'll cut it just inside the top edge then weld in a strip raising it up to close the gap between the tailgate and fit flush with the bottom while leaveing enough room for the tailgate to swing when it opens

I want to recarpet the bottom of the door panels and get new fabric inserts that match the blazer bucket seats

install tunes

tonneau cover

build a custom gauge cluster and gauge pod

bring it over the body shop and touch up the scratch's from being in a tight garage clean off any overspray or dust on the under carriage from when it was in the shop last time then give the paint a wet sand and buff..................

it's gona be a long cold winter with an unheated garage

Sell me the truck, then you can have a heated garage for whatever you like...haha. Looks good man, one of best swap/restore I've seen in awhile. Planning on doing the same to my turd but its my primary vehicle and I'm still gathering parts. Keep us posted...

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

I figured f#ck it you only live once, and you never know when you'll cash in....
so I sent the paper work out today and I'll have plates for it on friday and hopefully the other gauge cluster....

I should have it ready for a test drive next week...

oh ya I finished the battery setup last night I found this sound deadning material with self adhesive to put under the base plate, it tends to get brittle but it'll work for now ...using the side post I was able tuck the cables behind the battery out of sight

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

the speedo hasn't worked at all since I've had it running, it appears the computer is reading the vss but the speedo isn't recieving a sig. I have a 92 dash harness in the truck so I had a yard look up what works with a 92, the interchange came up with 92-94 p/u & blazer. I couldn't find one locally so I found this company EverDrive online when I talked to them on the phone they claimed to have exactly what I was looking for, a cluster for a floor shift with a tach...it could still be the vss or something else but at least I'll elliminate the dash and hopefully end up with a tach

Re: 91 1st gen 5.3 resto rod

the second cluster was a standard non tach unit also so I've changed my search to a sonoma gt cluster, a little more money but I think it looks better, if I don't find one of those I'll go aftermarket with auto meter gauges..I'm going to pickup a standard cluster for testing and to have if I go aftermarket

If I remember right the sunfire dash is a little different doesn't fit the bezel exactly I'm still looking... I picked up a stock 92 speedo but it has water damage and the circuit board is damaged

I'm getting used to missed deadlines ...nope no ride yet maybe this weekend...I'm in no rush now what with winter just around the corner I may as well take my time now and make sure everthing is right...I just got the speedo working it turns out the (speed sensor/buffer module) is needed to run the speedo and since it is attached to the side of the computer it and must have gotten discarded because I can't find either of the two computers that I had, this is what happens when you move a project multiple times before it is finished

Thanks man...the radiator was made by a company out of Michigan Superior Radiator I think I paid $400 on e bay...like those braces their stainless 3/8 fuel line bent with a standard fuel line tool the ends were flattened in the vise and I installed threaded inserts in the support so they bolt on..hell ya I could make you a set

winter is my best time down here in southern az. all I have to do is make sure the heater works and i'm good to go.
I'm envious...hopefully I have a couple more weeks of good weather before it hits then it'll be just over 5 months to look at this thing sitting in the garage before the roads will be clean enough to take it back out...I really need to find a winter hangout down south, this cold weather is getting old
