89 s10 ls2 swap

doing a ls2 swap on my 1989 s10,currently has a built 358 sbc in it and recently decided to change it up and go to a ls2 fuel injected,cant beat the power of a lsx motor. so i will be posting pictures of the swap as i go, and would appreciate all the helpful info along the way.

today i picked up my ls2 motor its out of a 06 trail blazer ss with 6k miles on it got it for a great deal
also my cpw h3 oil pan kit cam in

got my swap mounts in today

ordered a set of speedhut gauges for the build. I got the gauge idea from another members build he is doing. the ones i ordered are black backing silver bezel with red pointers and blue lighting

today my 2010 camaro l99 water pump came in



and my headers i got screwed over with from another member claimed they were 1 5/8 but there 1 1/2 there brand new were just bolted up

shaved some holes in the fire wall and stripped the frame ready for primer


got 3 coats of primer on it laying the gloss black tomorrow

yea i used a hvlp gun and the paint i used was the dupli color BSP200 - Jet Black

cleaned up the block and put the h3 oil pan on


set the motor in for the first mach up


got alot knocked out just figuring out what all i need to get or modify to get it all to work

Really clean work...Just wondering what did you do to clean and strip the frame. Also the L99 engine has VVT, and if I'm correct, the water pump should have some kind of spacing to make room for the larger timing cover associated with VVT engines. If so, what other accessories are you running (Car or truck)? I'm just curious to see what spacing is like for all the pulleys. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks, I used thinner and a wire wheel to clean the frame. the l99 water pump works great for running truck accessories with no spacers on the pump

I will be making the gauge cluster tomorrow using a 1/8 thick textured abs plastic sheet in place of the stock cluster. tonight im fabing up the core support to inset the radiator into it. when you come in town next hit me up and check out the truck

how well does the ls6 intake seal up on the ls2 heads because ls2 heads are cathedral ported on the intake side and ls6 intakes are setup to be on rectangular ported heads im not tryin to be negative or rip on your build I was just was wondering and thaught I would ask

Ls6 and Ls2 have cathedral port heads. The newer 6.2l and a few 6.0 come with the square port heads.

Plus the ls2 heads are the same heads with exception of the valves. Ls2 has solid and ls6 has light weight hollow valves.

Couple questions, what PCM are you using? It looks like it only has 1 plug on your harness for the PCM, mine has 2, Red and Blue. Why did you get a Corvette tensioner if your running truck accessories, isn't the spacing for the belt going to be off, causing you to space out the tensioner, or does it mount on the waterpump? Did that engine have the stock GM red plug wires on it, and if so, do you want to sell them? Please feel free to pm me back on this question. Looks like a great build!

with the newer camaro water pump (L99) you have to use the that tensioner with the truck pulley on the tensioner to get everything to line up so the belt fits. I did the same thing on mine and work great.

yea the L99 water pump has a "truck" alignment, its spaced out from the block to clear the vvt.
