Yeah we are he is lost on it too. He wants me to send him my ecu and predator tuner to him so he can take a look at everything. The only problem is finding a donar 03 ecu to use.

Have you gotten your problem fixed yet?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

first try checking the fuel pressure. easiest way there is to see is the motor has a fitting on the fuel rail (kinda like a valve stem on a wheel), connect a gauge and see what the pressures are. might have too low of pressure.

If not that, try looking at the egr valve. You start getting into diagnosis mode there. checking supply voltages and looking at input signals.

To me it sounds like a fuel related issue. You have fuel and spark because it is running.

Do you have hookup for OBD 2? And if so does it pop up any codes?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

I do not have my egr hooked up right now and yes it does throw a code for that? Is there a way to turn it off using the predator programmer?

And zerocool i have not talked to jared about this problem yet.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

In the predator there is some egr stuff you can turn off. I did it with mine, even though the 03 motors didnt have egr. It was weird. What egr codes are you throwing?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

I'm wondering if the programmer is seeing the codes from the egr and either dumping more fuel in or taking fuel away. I would definitely try starting there before doing anything else. Not familiar with the programmer itself, but definitely talk with the tuner to see if there is ways around the egr.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

guys breaking his shoes about estimating 10k invested. Thats just about right, its not the big stuff but the little stuff that rack the price up, like going down a getting a few race fittings for power steering or the fuel line $100 bucks here and there add up so quick. ordering misc parts like headers motor mounts radiators efans wiring, fluids for startup are easily a 100 etc The project is coming out great and really impressed me. I'm doing a build myself and totally know how the pennies go, keep up the great work man

Shit man thats a lot of stuff to add up... i'd guess around 5000. Lotta parts add up that you don't think about like hoses and shit.

And no i havnt driven it do to the fact that there is a problem with my computer. It was running fine for like 5 minutes straight then the fuel line poped off the in tank line. Now it will start but only stay running if i hit the gas.

Jared has the computer as of today and i should have it ready for next weekend. But that ok cause this weekend is pheasent opening! Go get me some birds.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

i thought you meant like everything having to do with the drivetrain, hah. But i got the engine for 1200 all accessories, ecu, wiring, intake, the works and 24k miles. Trans was 900 with lower miles then the engine.

And all this was bout right around 2 years ago when i started the swap, i only work on this during the summer when i'm not in school.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

Ok so here is what happened. I put the new computer in from jared took out the IAC and pushed the plunger all the way in. The first start went was kinda rough but after a few seconds it held at around 800 rpm. Second start was fine as well. Third start it went to 800 rpm then died shortly after.

So i check the IAC and it was fully extented, I pushed it back in all the way. This time on the start it reved to around 2000 rpm then bumped up to about 3000 rpm before i shut her off.

I think the IAC is all fucked?

I ordered some O2 sensors for the exhaust i don't have. But i got some header extensions from summit to weld some bungs on to test it out and see if it helps any of the engine problems.

Been putting more body pannels on her.

Its like a snorkle, kinda.

no different than any other small block. 210 degrees sitting idle after warm up. a 165 degree thermostat helps quite a bit though. btw - these motors/pcm have a great setup built in that if they start to overheat they go into limp mode and basically run on 4 cyl. i put a 5.3 liter in my jeep a few years back and I couldn't get the air out of the coolant lines. was a bear for the 1st few heat cycles, but never blew a gasket. my camaro had probs with the fan this summer, and it got up to 230ish and never had probs either. these really are amazing motors and are very forgiving.

IT RUNS

Well it ran before but the idle was all screwy and i wouldn't have been able to drive it. But now it runs fine and everything.

To this point i have no idea what exactly was wrong. I had to switch to the new HP tunners software. Jared is the man and helped me threw all this, this is why you pay the extra bucks to go threw him!

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

I'm on the road as a aircraft electrician/avionics man so I don't have a garage-here-to work in nor do I carry/lug around all my tools. So for this old guy it's let a pro do it for me. Wellllll....most of it anyway.

New MrGoodWrench LS2, and street/strip auto. My little S10 is my daily driver/hot rod while my two Mustangs stay in storage back in Montana.

Cost? 10K to start. Probably going to end up around $15K.
