O and 98-02 camaro disc brakes in back

This is what i started with, I'm rebuilding the whole truck.

For all those who think they can't do the swap, i have no mechanical background, my dad doesn't know the transmission from the engine, and i've had no help.

It goes to show that the internet is your friend and whatever you put your heart to you can accomplish. Lets also pray the engine turns over when i go to start it haha!

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

One thing i forgot to take a picture of is the fuel lines. I've read all the posts about the fuel line parts and all but the fuel filter issue that was brought up recently has confused me. I have what looks like three lines that go to the engine, from what i understand one feeds and one returns but whats the third?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

Third is the evaporator, you could possibly just put a cap on it and not mess with it.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

Hey guys i got a question about getting a new torque converter, would there be any benifit to getting a new torque convert while my engine and trans are still accessible? The only thing that is going to be done to it is minor things like exhuast, intake, and chip for now? How much of a difference would it make even?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

Sorry for the delay of pictures here is the story... I went to remove the oil filter that came with my engine frome the wreking yard. I tried every tool i had then even bought a couple. No dice the thing was stuck on there so tight. So i started using force with the tools and the can ripped off. So i made a tool out of 1/4 steel to remove the base plate from the engine it took three complete turns before the thing started to come loose. Complete PITA i tell you it was starting to piss me off.

That is the after math of the removal and the tool i made.

New K&N oil filter with 1" nut on the bottom.

Energy suspension trans mount

Couple pictures of my frame notches cause i know everyone always asks to see these, so here you go!

Those are the nicest notches I've seen on an LSx swap. Good job on those.

Who's doing the wiring?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

thanks for the complement, my friend instructed me on how to weld then i went to it. So that is the first time i ever welded lol. I did make one costly mistake that i don't want to take the time to redo which is; i made the A/C notch to small and the A/C doesn't clear now.

I had jared at current performance do the wiring, i already have the harness it looks awesome. I would take pictures but i think you guys know what they look like.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

I might have an idea for the A/C which is milling down the brakets to suck it into the engine more, it seriously 1 cm from clearing... It that or buy new a/c brakets which i am considering.

Now for my problem of the day! Where the **** is the CAM Pos connector? I noticed that it comes out by the starter so am i missing it or what? To clarify i am installing the harness and cant figure out where that connects to?

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

On your cam pos. sensor i think is on the back of the block next to the oil pressure sending unit. right behind the intake.

I wanted see how your power steering lines looked cause i am having trouble getting mine to fit steering box. because of the bends. But it dosnt look like you have yours hooked all the way up yet.

well actually i think 323, 325, and 327 are all the 5.3's thorugh the years...if u go to summit and search by vehicle for silverado theres all 3. Im thinking thats why from 99-01 they have 285 hp and 02 up is 295 Hp and some even have 310Hp...thats my guessing.

This looks great, it's refreshing to see someone take the time to research even if they weren't the best mechanically inclined prior and teach themselves. Your work looks REALLY clean you should be proud of it! Question about the motor, you had to paint it up first before dropping it in right?!

I might be mistaken but there are like (4) different kinds of 5.3L and (3) different 6.0L that i know of for the silverado

But feel free to double check on the hp ratings for yourselfs.. It might be a little different on tahoes, and surbs.
I think most keep the Cubes.. just have different kind of heads on the motors... I could be wrong though

1999-2002 Silverado

4.8L (LR4) 270 hp/285 ft. lb.
5.3L (LM7) 285 hp/325 ft/ lb.
6.0L (LQ4) 300 hp/360 ft. lb.
8.1L (L18) 340 hp/455 ft. lb. (01-04 only?)

02-07 Classic Silverado

4.8L (LR4) 285 hp/290 ft. lb.
5.3L (LM7) 295 hp/335 ft. lb.
5.3L FF--E85 (L59) 295 hp/335 ft. lb.
5.3L HO (L33; 05-07 Classic) 310hp/335 ft. lb. (available in EC 4WD only)
6.0L (LQ4) 325 hp/370 ft. lb.

You can always put a turbo or supercharger on a LSX engine. I like the potential it has to make power.

What yard did you get the motor from and how much did it cost you? Where are you at in WA anyway? I remember talking to you about buying your 4.3L like a year and half ago.

I got my motor from gundies and the tranny from spalding. They are both on car-part.com . Remember that junkyards prices can be negotiated.

well great minds think alike lol.

The only thing that is annoying about the fuel lines is that everyone must be ordering those special addapter fittings because they are on back order.

Re: 5.3l Swap Back from college finally!

I could use some advice, I am in the process of doing a 5.3/4L60E swap, and I was curious what you guys used the stock cross member, I have ordered my harness, computer program, headers, mounts, console & shifter, LS1 intake, and cam. I'm not real clear on triming the oilpan, can someone send me some pictures of what they did to thiers? My email address is john.worley1@us.army.mil. Thanks!
