2,5 to LS1 or 3,1 V6

Hi!
wanna swap a 3,1 v6 out of a Firebird(i have everything of it) or 5.0 TPI/ 700r4 out of a Trans Am,or a Z28 LS1 engine in my:

S10 Pick Up,1GCCS14A3M....,Manual Trans,this is a 2wheel drive!

Have someone with the same car done a 3,1 /700R4 swap?
Driveshaft will fit??Motormounts?

Have someone with the same car done a 5.0TPI /700R4 swap?
Driveshaft will fit??Motormounts


Have someone with the same car done a Ls1 /Automatic swap?
Driveshaft will fit??Motormounts?


As our club has a own craft house exhaust /header will be no problem!

We have the Gm shop manuals and right tools!
As Fbody racers we are new to the truck scene but used four S10 in the last years as tow cars.

Did a motor repair on a 88 4x4 s10 using a 89 2,8 Firebirdmotor ans even so the 4x4 was a pain in da...... it went well!

Any info for Swap kits and links to websides welcome!

F-bodys came with the 3.4 V6 not the 3.1, that was a FWD only motor. I think u should really decide what u want to get out of your truck, and how much money you are planning to spend. The 3.4 is a bolt on deal. But either V8 is gonna cost alot more. Make a choice between either a V8 or a V6, then I or other ppl on here will be able to help u out from there.

Well as you are a truck guy , let me give you a little help:90-92 std was a 3,1 on Camaro/Firebirds!

it´s easier to decide if you know more about the work and problems !

I´ll just read the answers and check out some websites and read about s10 swAPS A BIT MORE!

Well since you have the 3.1, I would put that in. Get some 2.8 motor mounts and it will drop right in. You'll also need a bellhousing and clutch for a 2.8, but the transmission will be the same.
Ive got a transmission from a 2.5 behind my 2.8. Its the same thing.

Yeah u got me there, i looked into it after posting and yeah the 3.1 was as u said available in a RWD version. Most ppl want to swap 3.1's from lumina's and cavy's, and while possible its just not worth it. This site is great for finding out what others have done to their rides and then u can judge from that what would be best for u and your ride.

Does anyone know if the 2.8 V6 motor mounts for the '80s S-10/S-15 will work with the new body style. I have a 95 S-10 and I'm in the process of buying a 3.1v6 w/700R4 out of a 91 Firebird to put in it. Thanks for any info you can provide.

What kind of engine do u have in their now? i know that the frame mounts are the same up to 98 i think, but u will need 2.8 motor mounts from an older truck.

In there now is a 2,5 tbi! thats what the vin(see my sig) says!
We are picking up the truck tomorrow and i´ll then see whats really in and on it!

We have all kind of engines to put in there ...as 180 ebay post tell..lol!
The idea came up at the race track !
Here in Germany lots of junk is used to pull the cars to the stagging line ...so we thought of getting a real puller truck done, that also hauls well and drops jaws when we pop the hood!
Gas again went up here:1ltr/1,20$!!!!!!!!!Thanks Saddam you a...zz....l!
The 3,1 Fbody just came out of a 92 firebird its running on a "test stand " so as i thought to use fbody 3,1 motormounts , we were told i got to use the 2,8 s10 mounts!this post is also running in othe sections so i´ll gather info and see whats up!
The S10 is a pick up, as on track i hate caddy acc. so ill bust all that crab like aircond. (aint really hot over here) out of the car!
Reading posts most of the swappers report a tight right hand side due to the air box! well take that out first!
Safty stuff like abs is yet to be checked what the truck has!
Do all 91 trucks have ABS??
This kept me awake last nite :abs ..does the rear axle has a abs ring like bimmers ??????
Delete the abs to a older std brake sys.???
put some real brakes on it????
Has someone changed the front disc to a larger size ?with larger calipers???

REALLY IMPORTANT: can i use a 95 up tow hitch on a 91??
tow hitches are rare over here!


Do they have a driver AIRBAG?
Do they have a Fbody like security VATS sys.???????
I ll take pics and if someone explain how to put them on here ill show some engine pics!

So you're putting a '92 3.1 in a S10? Make sure you have a neutrally balanced flywheel, as the '92 3.1 is internally balanced.

My 95 S-10 has a 2.2L with 5/speed. I'm hoping that te 2.8L motor mounts will work and bolt in place of the 2.2L mounts. My other concerns are the fuel pump and radiator. I think the fuel pump for the 2.2 should be sufficient for the 3.1. But, I will need a new radiator to support a transmission cooler since my 2.2 doesn't have one.

Well that depends are you going MPFI/SFI, TBI or Carb? But I think all the pumps in the S-Trucks were the same no matter which engine so I think it will be good.
And a new rad may be a good idea. A 2.2 rad will probabally cool enough but the fan might be doing alot of work.

Well we picked it up on saturday!
Its a no option car !No Air and no power strg--the way we love it!!This also makes the swap less troublesome.
Evenso we still wonder what to put in there???!!
Need to check the option code on the axle and look closer to the enginebay!

Ok the 3,1 is going in!We did check the car a bit better and it has no Power Options at all!
We´ll swap for Powerstrg from the donor car as the only luxury,no aircon, no elect. bla bla!
We are using the compl 3,1 Fbody engine and 700r4 as is!We are also using the fbody harness ,Dash****pit and shifter !
Some Questions:

1. The ABS runs on the 2,5 ECU?Can we splice the abs harness into the 3,1 ecm?Rember 3rd gen Fbodys had no abs!
Can we delete the abs without removing or swapping any brake parts? we would love to keep the abs working!

2. The 5 speed is going out and a 700r4 is going in!Is the transmember different?Are all trans members in original 700r4 2wd S10 the same? We have a 91 s10 pickup!

3.The intank pump needs to be replaced ; the 2,5 is a TBI and the 3,1 is a MPfi !Can we just put the Tankunit in the s10 tank?
On Fbodys the units are all the same!

4.Were there any S10 offered with automatik floorshifter from 85-92??
My 88 Truck had a automatic columshift!

5.We wanna use the Fbody Strg Airbag colum!Not only a nice future but we can also keep VATS then!Does the Fbody colum fits into a S10?

Yap, got the Metall off today..a "old" pic shows the work from the weekend!

We took care not to break or cut any needed lines!

Also cut the columplate out of the fbody to mount the colum from a firebird with airbag and dash into the s10!
the rear is a 3,73 on the s10 so the little 3,1 should be some azz....!

After reading the header debate we´ll just keep the stock cast 3,1 exhaust manifolds and run a true dual pipe sys. under the car!

We still need the info on the trans mount....will a 2,8 liter blazer automatic mount hold the 700r4?? are fbody and s10 700r4 the same except for the TC?The fbody 700r4 is running a electronic sensor!
