Issues with my digital gauge kit

I bought this kit from you guys a month or so ago.

It installed great ,and worke great for a while.

Soem time back, i started having issues with my sending units. The tank sending unit would completely go out at times, and at other times read severely over what the auctual tank pressure was. The same happened to another sending unit at one of my bags.

I contacted you, and you sent me two new sending units. I installed the one on the tank, and it worked like normal for a few days. Then, started reading ---- again. Now, its completely out.

Heres ware im at now. All four bags, with absolutely no pressure in them, read someware around 15psi. Sometimes, it fluctuates, from 14-15-17-20-9 , but the most common place for it to be is right around 15. There is absolutely no pressure in the bags, they lines are cracked open, so there is no chance of any pressure being in them..... So do i have another 4 bad sending units? When i fill the bags with air, the screen reads a full 15 or so PSi higher than what the auctual pressure is in the bag, ive tried testing it with a analog gauge. ITs consistantly off. WTF?

The tank sending unit, does not work, AGAIN. it wont read when it builds pressure, or when the tank is empty. It worked for a few days when AVS sent me a new sending unit, but quickly went back out...

idk. What causes these issues? How can i possibly have another bad sending unit from you guys? And how the hell can the gauge read that there is 15psi in the bags, when there is no air in the system yet...? Then when i do fill the bags, its consistantly off the same amount of PSI....

Thsi kit is not old, it was just purchased, and has low miles on it. How can these problems be arrising allready?

any suggesgions or answers here?

are the 4 sending units bad now also?

wtf?

heres a quick short video. It attempts to show what im talking about.

Yes we did. Jeff would like to know where you are getting power and ground from?

You are honestly the first person to have all of your senders give you trouble.

Im getting power for the unit from my steering columb, under the dash, ware you would normally get power for a remote start from.

The ground is being grabbed from a metal brace that runs under ware the gauges are mounted. Its a 1.5" bare metal tube. I ground down the spot ware the ground is placed, and used a nut and bolt to secure it.

Every sending unit ive had has gone to shit on me. But, not all of them in the same way. The tank sending start off by misreading the pressure anyware from 25psi off all the way to 110 psi off..., and the sending units for the bags wont read right at all, there constantly 15 or so psi off.

Re: Issues with my digital gauge kit

Taylor, have you tried using a digital volt meter to test that the metal brace that you are grounding to actually is grounded to the chassis of the vehicle? I want to make sure that it isn't just a structural brace for the dash that is not any way connected to the negative ground of the vehicle. If it's any easier for you temporarily run some speaker wire from your battery's positive and negative terminals with a 10-amp fuse near the battery inline on the positive wire. Again, this is just a temporary set up for testing, so throw the wires over the fender then through the door jamb into the cab. Connect the wires to your gauge inside the cab and see if you get any different readings. As for the tank gauge, unplug the harness from the gauge and check the pin alignment making sure that they are straight and true. Also check the female inlets. Do all three contacts look the same or are one or more bent open preventing the pin from making contact? Check these and get back to me. Like Kris said, you are the only one with this problem so it's kinda hard to determine what is going on but we will keep on trying until we figure it out. Your first package of gauges was stolen off your porch and now this. Some people get all the bad luck!!! We'll try to make life better for ya brutha as much as we can! Thanks Taylor!

Ok, i tried all of the above, with no success.

I know all the connectors on the sending units arent the issue, because the setup worked properly for a good amount of time before acting up, and they had never been unplugged yet.

I tried the grounds for everything, and even ran a temp jumper from my neg side of the battery to the grounds and it didnt help.

I tried the positive side of the battery to my + leads for my senders and it didnt do anything.

I tried un-installing all the senders, unpluging everything, and putting it all back together to see if that reset it or soemthing, but it didnt....

cris,

it is still in my truck right now. I really want to figure what the problem is on this thing. I can send you all my sending units any time, but i will need replacments, because my truck cant get off teh ground without them.

I send the first two back last week.

Let me know what you want me to do.

Re: Issues with my digital gauge kit

is it possible to try a second battery....or even a jumper box...ground the ground lead to your frame or good ground in the cab...now use the positive lead to just the gauge and nothing else and see if that does anything...it is possible that you are getting some sort of feedback on the power input...this would isolate that "noise"..if this does work then maybe some sort of filter on the power line.. if not i say you got some screwed up parts..

I can give that a shot when i get home......

I meter the wire at the unit with the truck running, and its around 14.5v , the ground seems to be strong.

Would it be worth me tryign to ground each one of the senders individually with a ring terminal for each one?

thanks for the input guys

I'm lazy and didnt read your whole post...are your wires fused? I dunno about the sending units but you might have damaged them with a power spike?? I dunno maybe??

the wires from the sending units are not fused, but they were never specified to be fused.

idk if this is an issue or not....

Re: Issues with my digital gauge kit

That is a good point, How did you ground the sensors? Did you group all of them together and then add in the ground for the gauge?

Is it soldered or wire nutted?

i hope its not wire nuts...and doesnt this gauge set up come with haness that all run back to the gauge? so you dont have grounds all over the place?
