Holds up against the elements?
Hey there,
I am looking for a setup for my shaved doors. I have run into several situations where the solenoids get water into them and the parts inside corrode. After this starts the clips that hold the pistons in place for the solenoid disintegrate and the piston seperates from the solenoid body and causes the solenoid to fail. I am looking for a weatherproof system AVS. I am looking at you guys because I have gone through Autoloc and they suggested putting the solenoids inside the truck instead of in the doors. SPAL suggested that I might try mounting their solenoids in a different location as well. So AVS, do you guys have a door release actuator that will hold up to the elements? I have spent a small fortune trying to get my doors to work. I have yet to go a full year without a failure on either the driver or passenger side. Let me know what you have and if you offer any kind of gurantee on your products. It seems that the other companies refuse product replacement if consumers do not mount their products as they would like you to mount them Please Help!! thanks, LowNTX |

Re: Holds up against the elements?
AVS KRIS,
Man I hope to the gods of GM that your product is what you say it is. I am so frustrated with the experience that shaved doors have been. Is your solenoid a sealed unit by any chance? I can tell you if your product can survive the elements inside a vehicle door after a couple of years you have a good thing going. If it works for me for longer than 6 months, You will be getting quite a large amount of business from me then. There are quite a few in our group that are having the same issue. Also, which rods are needed to make the AVS kit work with the latch inside the door? Last edited by LowNTX : 02-20-2008 at 06:04 PM. |

Re: Holds up against the elements?
these kits are great and you dont need any rods, infact i just installed mine last night and i removed all the rods except the one for the inside door handle one. They are very simple to install too. They are very similar to the actuators that vehicle manufacturers use for the door locks so i am certain that they will hold up to the elements. And by the way Kris is AWESOME and she knows her shit.

Re: Holds up against the elements?
![]() thats the motor we use....as you can see you wont have the problems your having right now with your current solenoid kit. You just need to keep the rod that goes from your handle to the latch...I know this kit will last more than 6 months....it will last you years if properly installed. |

Re: Holds up against the elements?
That looks like a good setup. I am considering getting the outer weatherstrip for my door just to make sure that I limit the water that goes into the door. But that looks awesome.
It seems that a great deal of members use them with the auto locks. I dont have power anything in the truck. These work the same? My latch unit doesnt look like the ones in the how to. Seems to be a great deal smaller. |

Re: Holds up against the elements?
It doesnt have to be power or manual door locks....either or our kit will work. |

Re: Holds up against the elements?
LowNTX, where exactly are you located? I am in San Antonio, Texas, and I have the AVS kit on my truck, and it is awesome. The only rod you need is the one to the inside door handle, and the actuator screws on to your latch, like it was meant to be there. It is extremely simple, and tough, and you should have no more problems if you use this kit.

Re: Holds up against the elements?
SlammedSonoma96- thats cool about the actuators, I trust you. I am actually going to order them this weekend or maybe even Monday. Are you going to head out to the S-series meet in Austin this year? Looks like it is going on the weekend of the 03/22/2008.
