having prob. with shaved door kit

well i have had my doors shaved for a few months now but my truck was broken into over the weekend and my stereo stolen. i guess when the took all the stereo stuff out the somehow damaged the control box for the door acuators. its all hooked up no loose wires but the doors wont pop. luckily the windows broken so i can still get in and out. the red light on the unit is not on so i am assuming its bad. can i purchase just the control box and two remotes or do i have to get the whole shaved door kit again. need answers asap so i can fix.2002 s10 xtreme extended cab

Re: having prob. with shaved door kit

I need to know this too as my 12 channel remote brain suddenly stopped working after my battery died on me. I tried resetting the brain a few times and it does nothing. Can a new brain be purchased separate or do I have to buy a whole kit again?

Re: having prob. with shaved door kit

It sound to me like maybe they damaged or ripped out some of the wires going to the brain or wiring harness. Probably a power wire some where. If you say everything is still all hooked up, you could always just send the brain to us for testing. And to answer your questions of whether you can buy just the remote and brain. Yes, the 12 channel is $70 and our new AVS 4 channel is also $70. Hope this helps...

Re: having prob. with shaved door kit

Mine still isn't working and it's definitely not the wiring b/c its getting power to the brain. I ordered a new brain so we will see if that fixes it. It just sucks b/c I have to use the backup wire to get in every time until I get the new brain.

I'm going to hope that you have our relay/wiring harness. If so, take the 3-wire loom that is for the optional rocker switch and touch the terminal on the end of the black wire to either one of the blue or green wires next to it. Did one of the doors pop? If so, then the main harness is getting sufficient power and ground. If not, then check those connections. Even if the power and ground were both disconnected, the back-up entry wires WILL STILL work. Let me know.

This did not work. How can I tell what "sufficient" power is to the brain? I have a multimeter and can test the voltages.

When you guys charge your batteries, do you disconnect one of the terminals or leave them both connected to the truck?

What you can do is put the key in the truck and turn it to the on position. Unplug the three wire plug that goes into the brain that has the power and ground wires.. Wait a couple of seconds and then plug it back in. You should see the red LED flash on the brain. Now hit the button to pop one of the doors and it should work.

BINGO! That is why I ask if you disconnect the battery from the truck during charging. Most 12V battery chargers/jumpers have an output of up to 18V. This can cause damage to any of your 12V electronics or cause them to "lock up" such as this case. Simply unplug the unit, wait a minute or so, then plug it back in. If it works, then you know that the unit locked up to protect itself. This can happen with too high or even too low of a voltage. Maybe Doug can pop in and elaborate a little more on this. Where you at tech guru???

Re: having prob. with shaved door kit

Hey Jeff,
I got my problem figured out, it was a bad ground. I already ordered a new brain but now I don't need it. Is there any way I can send it back? Would I need to call to get a RMA number?

NO RMA required just send it in w/ a note explaining and put "ATTN:NICK"(our sales manager) on it. When we get it we'll credit your card back for the part only. Thanks for talkin to us instead of just gettin pissed!!!

Sweet thanks man! I wouldn't have gotten pissed, I figured it was either something I did or I had it wired wrong. Just glad you guys are on here to help us out.
