AVS Door Popper Kit

I've got a 2002 Blazer and I'd like to install the AVS Door Popper kit. However, I already have my alarm system prewired to use door poppers. I would just need to wire it into your kit. Do you just sell the solinoids, the mounting hardware and poppers with out the remotes and brains? If so, what would be the cost with shipping?

Dude, if it isn't too late, you should read this: DO NOT buy solenoids! Go with a different kit!!

Re: AVS Door Popper Kit

Kris,

My kit came in today but there is a slight problem with it.

My poppers don't look like this:

They are not threaded like the ones in the above picture. I thought this kit came with the ones in the above picture.

What do you recommend?

Re: AVS Door Popper Kit

Also, Why would I not want to install the lowest plug back into the assembly? Does this control the power locks?

If so, then I would need this because my alarm locks and unlocks my door, also when I put the truck in drive it locks my door. I'd like to retain that functionality.

If I plugged that plug back in anyway would the main issue be incase of a dead batt, there would be no power to lift the motor locker and only backup power to to pop the Actuators?

If that is the case, then I could just tap into the lock motor feeds with the backup actuators feeds and unlock and pop the doors at the same time. Does this sound right?

Also, coming out of the wiring harness is a red and black wire heat shrinked together. Can you explain this?

Re: AVS Door Popper Kit

Also, Why would I not want to install the lowest plug back into the assembly? Does this control the power locks? Yes. Also there is a retaining bracket that traps the lock lever in the unlocked position.

If so, then I would need this because my alarm locks and unlocks my door, also when I put the truck in drive it locks my door. I'd like to retain that functionality. Our kits are not made to work like this. If you have shaved doors, then we feel that it is unnecessary to have door locks. If you haven't really ever played around with a door latch, you need to know that if the latch release lever is just slightly engaged by the actuator/solenoid, your latch will not be able to unlock once it is engaged without having to relieve the tension from the actuator/solenoid. We have seen this happen many times in the past no matter the brand of kit, so we opted to do away with the locks. If safety is the reason, then may I suggest some electric deadbolts? These would be the same ones that you would use on a suicide door kit. Or what I do with most of my own vehicles is shave off the interior handles as well, then install a rocker switch or two push buttons hidden along the bottom of my dash. This way children can't open the door nor can a thief that just broke your window.

If I plugged that plug back in anyway would the main issue be incase of a dead batt, there would be no power to lift the motor locker and only backup power to to pop the Actuators? This is also correct.

If that is the case, then I could just tap into the lock motor feeds with the backup actuators feeds and unlock and pop the doors at the same time. Does this sound right? No. #1 this would have to be in 2 steps. 1st the unlock, then the door release. The factory wiring has the motor wires resting at ground. You would have to cut the wire to the lock motor (the wire that receives +12 when unlocking) and install a relay on to it.

Also, coming out of the wiring harness is a red and black wire heat shrinked together. Can you explain this? These are power outputs for our 12-channel receiver. You can use these for a remote system, but don't use them for anything else. You don't want to overload the circuit.

Re: AVS Door Popper Kit

Sounds good. Thank you for the information. I'm going to try to retain my power locks with this kit, but mod it so I wount be completely locked out in the event of a dead batt. I'll post details and pics when it's complete. =)

Re: AVS Door Popper Kit

OK, here's what you do:

#1. When you install our shaved door kit on a 94-03 S10, you will permanently remove the rod that connects the latch to the inside door handle. If you have one of our kits for your 82-93 S10 then permanently remove the rod that connects the latch to the inside door handle and DO NOT install the supplied cable assembly. Now remove your inside door handle and go to work on some new door panel modifications.

#2. Purchase our #SW4 rocker switch. Our new wiring harnesses will have a 3-wire dedicated input for a switch. Connect the black wire to the center pin on the back of the switch. Connect the blue wire to one of the side pins and the green wire to the last pin. Now mount the switch in an inconspicuous place such as the bottom edge of the dash of somewhere on your center console. Just make sure to mount it somewhere easy enough for you to reach but out of sight from potential thieves. For those of you who are keeping your inside handles, the switch is still a good idea. You can open your passenger door without having to lean across the seat to open the passenger door or vice versa. Just centrally locate the switch on the dash.

#3. Install #AL-DL2500 dead bolts into your doors. Attach to a REVERSE POLARITY relay harness controlled by another #SW4 rocker switch (you can hide this one also). We don't sell a complete harness for these just yet, but I can give you all of the parts and a wiring diagram for $30 including the switch.

Now when you are in your truck you can hit the switch so the dead bolt system extends a sliding bolt through your door jamb and into the body of the truck. You can also hook it up to your alarms door lock outputs so when you arm the alarm the doors get dead-bolted shut. When you diarm the alarm, they will retract so you can pop open your door. Only problem is if the battery dies, you have to learn how to manipulate your hood latch from the outside so you can get a jump, cuz you're not getting in! lol

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!
If you are going to remove the inside doors handles as described above, and you have power windows, then please STRONGLY CONSIDER read the following. I have been in the automotive industry 17 years and have seen many wiring disasters including many fires. Most were do to poorly installed audio equipment and compressors. Think about these two situations: #1. Let's say an amplifier power wire gets pinched under a seat bracket and you have no fuse or circuit breaker installed. The wire is going to get red hot and melt into any other wires that it may be next to or laying across. Next thing you know the cab starts filling with noxious smoke and the wire melts into your shaved door wiring causing our fuse to blow leaving along with your power windows circuit breaker opening. HOW WILL YOU GET OUT??? #2. Let's say you get into a car crash and the impact wiped out your battery or shorted it... HOW WOULD YOU GET OUT??? I know, I know, the chances of wither situation is slim, but very plausible. We don't want to any of you getting hurt or worse!!! If you decide to do this type of installation PLEASE purchase either a SPRING LOADED CENTER PUNCH or a EMERGENCY RESCUE HAMMER from HARBOR FREIGHT TOOLS or EBAY. These $3 and up tools can save your life by being able to easily break your window so you can escape from a smoke filled cab or a truck that's on fire. Sorry for the huge paragraph but I just want to emphasize on how important this is!

if you buy our pre-wired wiring harness with relays, your back up wires are built in,you just need to run them to the front of your truck. all you do is tap the power and ground to a battery and it opens your drivers door in case you need to get in.
