airbar question...slam

i have a question.
i have a 2000 xtreme with the airbar.
im wondering if i can somehow run slam bags instead of the crappy sleeve bags?
ive heard of people doing that.
but idk, i wanna ask the experts.
and if can run slams, is there anything i would need?
let me know
thanks

and another qusetion, is it safe to just cut the frame enought to go lower.
like put no notches, and just cut the frame 2 inches so the rear end clears?

My brother has the airbar and his sleeve bags aren't crappy. They work well imo. I'm not sure about putting slams on it, someone else will have to answer that.

I wouldn't cut the frame without at least putting in a bolt in C-notch.

Re: airbar question...slam

Air bags:
You can run Slams on the rear of your dime, but the ride will be harsh. We use sleeve style air springs as they have the correct spring rate to lift the vehicle and provide a a nice ride.

Take a look at the front and rear suspensions. The front uses double A-arms with the bag in the middle (between the frame and the spindle) creating a motion ratio (between 1.6:1 and 2:1 depending). The rear suspension places the bags right behind the rear end and provides a motion ratio of almost 1:1. So if you put double convoluted air springs on the rear, the spring rate will be very high, and a rough ride will result.

C-notch:
You'll notice the frame is shaped like a "C". If you cut the bottom out, and do not weld in new metal, you end up with an upside down "L". If you cut all the side out you have a "-". This will decrease the strength of the frame, and it will be more likely to bend and break at this point.

Re: airbar question...slam

the bag has nothing to do with how low it will go..with the airbar, the axle hits the frame and wont go any lower..and you would have to fab up a mount for the wishbone if you tried to run a raised gastank crossmember
