Re: airbar install
It's actually not that bad.. I left the bumpstops on the front and back. so it doesn't sit on the ground. It's close but yea.. The back bounces a little but not as bad as you would think.

Re: airbar install
I have a question about mine and figured I would post it in this old thread instead of starting a new one. I have an airbar on my truck and I put a set of the suicide doors bolt in c notches. when fully aired out the truck just barley goes any lower than it would if I didn't have the c notches. I still have the bed off and I when I hop up and down on the rear it moves down a tiny amount but seems like something is hitting or binding. The bed is not on so the pumpkin isn't hitting the bed. Nothing is hitting or binding where the c notches are. I can't figure it out. The c notches still have about 1 1/2" of drop left but something is keeping it from going any lower. Heres the kicker though and hopefully what can help someone decide what the problem is. When I jack one side of the rear end up, left or right, the axel goes all the way up into the c notch like it should until it bottoms out. This works on both sides if I do each side separetly. If I do both side at onece by jacking under the rear end it only goes so far as mentioned above and than stops like it is hitting something. what would allow it to drop all the way when jacking each side individually but stop it from dropping all the way when both are done at the same time. I am out of ideas and kinda dissappointed that after all the work of installing the c notch it seems I may only get an extra inch of drop out of the truck. Would the shocks limit how much drop the truck will get? They are the stock airbar shocks mounted in the stock location and they are compressed pretty good but I don't think I would be able to jack one individual side up further if the shock was limiting it. Also the truck is running 15" rims and the driveshaft is a good 3-4" away from the crossmember. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: airbar install
Also I saw that many people have 2 inch drop blocks installed along with the airbar. Would adding these drop blocks make it sit lower? I am trying to figure out how adding 2 inches to the air bar would make it go lower. Is that maybe what I need to do in order for mine to lay out?

Re: airbar install
Shocks could be bottomed out, but more than likely your driveshaft is hitting the gas tank crossmember. I was going to notch my old truck, also running the AirBar, but aired out the driveshaft is already about 1/2" from the crossmember.

Re: airbar install
i still have about 3-4" clearance between the driveshaft and the gas tank crossmember when lowered all the way. It's not that hitting. I am running small rims and tires so I guess that gives me a little more clearance in that area. If the shocks were bottoming out I don't see how I can put a jack under one of the rear tires and jack it up until the c notch bottoms out on the airbar axle mounts. It just doesn't seem like that may be the problem but I may unbolt them quick just to check. I am running out of ideas.

Re: airbar install
if I didn't have 2 inch drop blocks in would that keep it from going any lower? From what I understand the drop blocks will make the truck sit lower but you will loose some lift. When I get home I will post some pictures. I will also try and disconnect the shocks and see if that resolves it.

Re: airbar install
No driveshaft is away from cab. I took the shocks off and it went a little lower but not much.

Re: airbar install
How about the lower links possibly bottoming out in the front mounts? I know when you use them on the SD link, you have to grind a little extra clearance on them to lay out.
Quick pointer to show where I'm talking about. ![]() |
