Re: airbar install

Hi looks great how does it ride compared to dropped suspension? Do you feel its good set up or practical for a daily driver?

Re: airbar install

I am working on a manual valve set up just to be different and (so far it is not cheaper this will cost me @ the same as a set of 4 or 6 valves all done) I will post a few pictures when I get it done. I need a raised tank crossmember and will have to fab it up to work with the airbar. I am also in the process on bagging the front with cups and bags from SD so I will post pics probably in the spring.

Definently will but I am still looking for a crossmember I will probavbly have to just break down and buy one from SD but as of now I am going to finish bagging the front and in a few weeks get the bed off and screw with the rear again.

FYI i talked to ricky about the raised tank thing an he told me it would not work with out substantion mods since it pushes the crossmember forware an the link bar is not long enough that just what he told me 2 ''1st gen air bar''

I talked to him before and he said they made a old style that is closer to rear of the truck he said they could make me one for the same price as the current one. he said it is @ 2 inches more to the rear.

Re: airbar install

I used the raised crossmember from SD. Just asked them to leave the tabs off and I would weld them on myself. In my opinion it really isn't worth it. It puts alot of strain on the system. That's why I ended up just getting the road grater. Handles way better then the airbar, and I lay out.

Re: airbar install

the front wheels hit the front inner fenders I have to cut them and the tierods hit the frame slightly. In the rear the drive shaft is hitting the stock crossmemeber and the pumpkin is just about hitting the bed floor. so I will have to remove the bed and see what can be done, if it is too much work to do it I will call SD and get their 4 link kit or something.

Thanks man!
It is made from 2 tubes @ 1.5 or 1 inch and the top is sheet metal welded to the tube and the center is a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal all welded. Then I cut vents in top for heater and got a piece of aluminum and hit it with 1000 grit with a da for a dull finish but swirly and wrapped the whole thing in a soft vinyl . I like it turned out pretty good. I was going for a simple but clean idea. It doesn't have a bottom panel so you can see some wiring and under the dash . I am probably going to rewrap it or I may sell it and section a 1956 merc dash I got laying around.

Re: airbar install

Yeah still working on it but I mounted it and cut the clamshell and mounted it to the cross member and the wishbone angle is off from the lower bars the instant center is behind the axle, I am still thinking of ideas to correct it I may have to make the wishbone adjustable. I will post a few pics soon but it is layin on the mounts for the lower arms and I bagged the front so it lays out as well.

Re: airbar install

your going to have to make your forward wishbone mount the lowest part of that x-member. Maybe lay the truck out, and move the wishbone mount as low as you can get it before it touches the driveshaft. B/c with those angles its not going to work well

I know I don't like them at all I have another idea and Currently waiting on parts from SD when I figure more shizz out I will post the pictures. I have a possible way to make the angle way better.

Re: airbar install

"I installed a 2 inch block and the wheel hop is almost gone I need to change pinion angle and play with pressures now but without the block I did not like the height it rode(I like to ride low)"

I just purchased an AirBar and havn't had time to mess with it yet, but I was thinking about adding the 2 inch blocks to get the 1 inch off the ground that I am looking for. First question, with 2 inch blocks arn't your lower bars extremely low to the ground (below your scrub line?) Second question, how bad does it hit the fuel tank cross member and when (fully deflated or before it fully deflates)?

With my notch the driveshaft hits really hard when aired out, I had an issue with when real low I stabbed the gas and I heard my drive shaft hitting my cross member (engine torque rear diff wants to rotate up and rear squats)
plus with the tank in the stock location I put a decent size dent in it when pulling into work so this is why I chose to raise the tank. As far as my lower bars being too low never had a problem.

I am going to have to trim and/or cut on the front part of my factory rear shock mounting tabs to allow the upper bag mount to bolt-on.
